Surely there’s a big dollop of irony attributed to comments that show someone getting offended by an apology for apparent offence caused to a group that the offendee doesn’t belong too?
I hate to say this JM but I sadly think you are wrong on this one. The man on the Clapham omnibus does seem to care more about getting excited at this sort of thing than corruption. The Hartlepool bi election was a good glimpse of that. There were plenty of stories of government corruption and even a load of course cases still pending. Ministers had been found to break ministerial rules. Corruption of the PM ranges from handing out PPE contract to mates to using public money to try and hide affairs and decorate his room. In a reasonable democracy these things would have seen him hounded out of office and possibly sent to jail. In this country his party gets a landslide victory in a seat they've never won before. I agree that what you are saying should be important. However, to enough of the British electorate to win elections they don't seem to be.Huge levels of poverty across the country, austerity, corruption, 150k covid deaths, voter suppression, police bill just to name a few things thats happened in the last few weeks V an announcement on a train.
Nope I really dont see how someone could look past all of the above, but decide to switch political party on the basis of a train announcement. If someone does then they dont really have the intelligence or maturity to be voting.
I suggest the teacher always addresses the Head with a cheery 'Morning/afternoon, c**t!'.I'm sorry. You have to be an absolute melt (none gender specific) to moan about this.
I read this shaking me head. A true 'the world's gone mad' moment. The fact its actually 'news' is every bit as woeful.
I read the other day that a school teacher at a girls school ended his lesson with 'have a good weekend girls'. He was hauled in front of the head teacher on the Monday because one of them was offended. The girl in question had told her parents she identified as a boy. The head teacher knew but didn't tell the teacher in question. What the fecks he meant to do?
It's a girls school but he's been told he needs to be none gender specific.... Madness
What on earth are you going on about, who has called you a gammon? I see much, much more instances of people being called snowflakes, melts or woke than people being called gammon. The only person to mention gammon on this thread is you for Gods sake. You're derailing the debate which is your simplistic view that people are more bothered about a train announcement and political correctness than high level corruption within government.I agree, it does. So why is it okay to call people old gammon but criticise others who refer to woke and snowflake?
Think you are really insulting the intelligence of the average voter by suggesting that they would be more bothered about an announcement on a train than corruption at the highest level of government
People who like to get outraged by absolutely nothing are clearly targeted by the right over this, because they know they lap this sort of thing up without question, just like you have. And they are very unlikely to be an average floating voter
Gord. Where have I said that anyone called ME. A gammon? I haven’t, have I? I asked why it was acceptable for PEOPLE to be called old gammon but it was not acceptable for people to be referred to as woke or snowflakes. You read only what you want to read, not what is written. What on earth are you going on about, who has called you a gammon? You've had an absolute nightmare on this thread and offered no substance at all - Hartlepool has ALWAYS had a strong right wing percentage of the vote going back to the seats creation, well before the times of PC gone mad.
Excuse me? Who is the one throwing insults around here? I asked what the relevance of your gammon related rage was coming from when nobody has even mentioned it? If you want to get on your high horse throwing insults around that's your call but it doesn't exactly show you in a particularly good light does it.Gord. Where have I said that anyone called ME. If you had read the thread I also referred to the general election not just to Hartlepool.
“You have had a nightmare on this thread”, Oh, you patronising, sanctimonious pr1ck! Spare me your pathetic attempts at undermining me.
Calling people pr1cks and getting ever more angry at the world is not the behaviour of your “average floating voter”. And you certainly don’t come across as one of the latterPie crust spitting rage? What are you on about? It’s things like this that the average floating voter notices, not issues of corruption and sleaze however vital they may be, and if you don’t realise this then you, too, are very naive.
Why don't you hope I'm humble and happy? I'm offended.Good morning gentleman, ladies, boys and girls and any two-spirit penguins reading the board today, hope you are all hale and hearty.
I feel so sorry for the train guard/manager in all this. The comment was certainly meant to be a warm and friendly greeting, nothing more. I found it inoffensive to all, but then any offence taken by a non binary human being is their right. However, I have the right to think Laurence was being ott with his sensitivity on the matter if I wish. The conductor meant well, broke no laws, and I suspect he has not broken LNER policy (I suspect a new policy is being typed out on a two-spirited computer somewhere, as I type on here.
LNER have the right to apologise if they wish, that is fine and reasonable. I reserve the right to think their reaction, and to publicly threaten some sort of rebuke and further action toward their employee was misplaced, unnecessary and frankly a joke. To suggest the language the conductor used was unacceptable offends me in truth, but LNER wont care about that. I look forward to LNER wasting a small fortune on the retraining of their employees to read a welcome message from a likely hastily constructed policy and card issued to all staff so that no maveriques and ceterosexuals have their rainbows ruffled in future. Meanwhile I would recommend Laurence chillaxed with a nice macchiato and gets on with the rest of ones life.
I think it is black and white situation and as you present as a brown bear I am not allowed to panda to your needs. Why don't you hope I'm humble and happy? I'm offended.
sounds like your views are polar opposite...I think it is black and white situation and as you present as a brown bear I am not allowed to panda to your needs.
I was enjoying a pot of honey considering my replyI notice you generally take time out to consider your responses, being a bear, I guess that explains the big pause?
There’s always a sting in the taleI was enjoying a pot of honey considering my reply
