“Stakeknife” dead

Bloke I used to work with a while back who was ex UDR/Royal Irish told me it was known that McGuinness was a British agent.

I wasn't so sure but I've read recently that there is speculation that he may well have been
Its been stated by ex army servicemen who controlled spies that McGuinness' was a British agent and his code name was 'Fisherman' because he liked fishing. The department who controlled spies motto was also 'Fishers of Men' coincidentally.

To convince people of this they said that's why so few arrests were ever made of IRA volunteers around the Londonderry area. This was because it was his 'patch' and arrests may lead back to him. A sobering thought.

He has taken his secrets to his grave. A cold and calculating man. Nothing is ever what it seems in that murky world of the 'Troubles.'

It is also claimed that Gerry Adams tipped off the security services prior to the Loughall Police station bombing in which 9 senior, experienced IRA terrorists died.

Two of those men were ruthless operators and not supporters of Adams and his taking the Republican movement towards politics and peace. It is said they were planning to assassinate him and form a new breakaway IRA.

Of course, it suited the security forces to encourage rumours like this and sow suspicion among IRA ranks.

Eight IRA killed. The ninth was a civilian who was in the wrong place at the wrong time, wearing the wrong clothes - a boiler suit like the one the IRA men were in.

Correction yes. He was driving home from work with his brother who was injured. He drove into the ‘Killing Zone’ a truly awful coincidence he was wearing the same boiler suit as the IRA team.

The SAS took no prisoners that day. It was shoot to kill and they took out 8 committed terrorises that had been responsible for many deaths in the province.

The irony of the solicitor for the IRA asking for apologies over murders which could have been prevented but where actually committed by the IRA. I have visited Belfast and was absolutely encapsulated but you do get the sense its still simmering. We walked from Crumlin Gaol, through to Shankhill road and then through to the falls road and it was certainly off the beaten track! I am mid-thirties so can remember the 'Good Friday agreement' being signed but obviously had no clue what it was. As a forced Catholic child I just assumed it was something to do with Jesus! As i've gotten older though I have read countless books and watched countless documentaries from all sides and what a mess it was and so much bloodshed could have been prevented. I suppose that is true for all wars. What I am hugely against is British soliders being tried into their late 60's/70's with one being given a jail sentence most recently due to not attending a hearing even though he had medical dispensation, the Irish board refused it. This is wrong on so many levels considering so many IRA sympathizers, Freedom fights/terrorists depending on what side of the fence you sit where freed without charge and left to live out their days without fear of prosecution.

Years back I contacted Harry Maguire, he's one of the IRA men convicted of killing two British army corporals at an IRA funeral, an incident infamously known as the corporals killings. He now works as director for CRJI, a restorative justice organisation which works alongside the PSNI.

He was amicable and actually invited me to travel across to West Belfast and show me around the area, as I'd told him that I'd like to do the troubles tour one day.

When I asked him about the corporals he mentioned that one of the key elements of the GFA is reconciliation, and said he believes in that wholeheartedly. Later I said to him that he must regret spending time in prison and his response was "I don't look it that way, who wouldn't stand up against invaders?".

Scratch under the surface and you'll find the feelings of hatred is still as strong as ever. Reconciliation is just a word they use in order to help maintain the peace, but there is no remorse, therefore there should never be forgiveness.

You can see that in the words of Sinn Fein from the other day still taking no ownership of anything.

People often ignore the domestic issues as well, as PIRA ( to give their real name) controlled pubs, clubs taxi firms and dealt out brutal punishment beatings to anyone that didn’t comply inc the infamous so called knee cappings.

And of course, many of them now glamourise a hip hop band named 'Kneecap'. Charming.

I wonder would they have an issue with a group naming themselves as "Shankhill Butchers".

As did the Ulster Freedom Fighters, Ulster Volunteer Force, Loyalist Volunteer Force, Red Hand Defenders and the other "Protestant" paramilitaries.

Yeah, I've seen it. The IRA had believed the two corporals were SAS because one of the soldiers had ID on them which mentioned 'Herford'. The IRA had misread this as 'Hereford'(Headquarters of the SAS).

Reality was they were members of the Royal Signals. God knows how they found themselves in that situation but I don't believe they were there undercover.

Its such a decisive subject

God knows what they where thinking, it does make me wonder if there was something more to it but I highly doubt S.A.S would be carrying any form of I.D. It must have been terrifying
