“We’re playing Middlesbrough next week just stay with the defender and wait for the ball/error to come “

Ok none of us are professional scouts ( despite some delusions) but you can guarantee that this is what is in every scouting report that comes back on us.

It’s just so obvious we all know it.

It has been increasingly evident even back to last season (when only a few teams set up to do it) that if you get the press on us right, we struggle to break it, and now teams are getting tighter on it it's forcing more errors from the poorer players currently having to start for us.

You’re almost waiting for it now aren’t you.

I'd be more saying 'press our midfield' . The majority of issues start with them giving the ball away inside our own half. Usually after a ball out from the back.

Every week it happens. Usually Barlaser. Although lost count the amount of times O'Brien failed to find a Boro shirt with a simple pass yesterday.

To be fair everything is wrong at the moment. Defence / CM / No width or pace. Oh and no CF. I think the large part of it is down to zero confidence.

Hopefully improved the GK department by finally bringing Dieng back 👍

We don't have the players available to play that way at the moment.....
Carrick needs to change it and play 5 at the back, back to basics v Norwich hard to beat.

If we don't it will be a similar story, the Leicester game was a one off where they didn't take their chances

That is what teams appear to be doing, they've stopped pressing our back 4 so much but as soon as a midfielder goes short to collect the ball they're on them in a flash.

It's easy to do with players out there at the moment. When jones, howson, Hackney and coburn are fit I'd argue that we'd beat the press alot more.

Absolutely right, Hackney is brilliant at receiving the ball in tight areas on the half turn and setting things off. Barlaser likes the game in front of him, it's no good giving him the ball facing his own goal....it's asking for trouble !

Darbo's defence there being that Barlaser doesn't know what is coming. Maybe don't turn in to it if you don't know and maybe even the revolutionary concept of looking behind you to see what is there before you you get the ball

Barlaser is a joke. Simple.

Don't be so stupid it was a camikazi pass, even Messi would have struggled to do anything with that !

Messi would have the awareness to know exactly what was behind him and would pass straight back to the keeper. Barlaser failure is hes completely oblivious the attackers closing him down

That pass from Dieng is absolutely fine. It’s theoretically the right pass. The problem is who he’s passing to.

We’re ok as long as DB just plays it simply to the unmarked player square of him. The obvious pass. And look, we’ve beaten the press. For some reason he tries to turn without knowing there’s a man behind him.

Dieng probably shouldn’t play that pass but only because by now he should know that DB will make the wrong decision. So that pass is the right pass if HH receives it, but the wrong pass if DB receives it. Which is a crazy way to play.

Once teams reach the point where you have to check which player you’re passing to before you decide whether to make the pass or not, because you can trust some players and not others, you’re a team in trouble.

There is absolutely no rhythm or set pattern to our team at the moment. This is due to the constant chopping and changing to cover for the ridiculous number of injuries. Players have no real understanding with the player playing next to them. They haven’t been able to build these relationships on the field. It’s in complete contrast to almost all of last season under Carrick.

To those saying Carrick isn’t changing approach, I disagree. Our goalkeepers have gone longer much more frequently since Bristol City and we do clear our lines with a longer ball more often.

The big issue being overlooked imo, in amongst stuff about the chairman needing to sell and Carrick being on the brink; Fry, Smith, Lenihan, Howson, Hackney and Jones would all be starting if fit. That’s 6 first-choice players. Take 6 first-choice players out of any Championship team and it would be markedly different. As much as there are more general issues around recruitment, overall strategy, etc, you can’t just ignore that we have so many senior players unavailable.

There is a complete dearth of confidence in the team. This will change with a win. Our record this season suggests we’ll probably win on Wednesday night.
