1989 Rave

I was 16 so it was a year or so before I went to any raves. It’s amazing to see such quality footage and no mobile phone in sight ! A few wide eyes mind you !

Not trying to be a pedant, but I really don't think that's 89, first 2 tracks were released in 89, but thats more Chicago piano house/detroit techno and the clothes look more early 90's. I started going to this type of thing in 92 and those tracks were still big then, I've still got tapes with those tracks on. Big warehouse/aircraft hanger venues that were in daylight didn't get big like that video until 90/91 with Entropy, Vision, Fantazia, Dreamscape, Raindance, Book of Love, Mythology, Starlight, Pandemonium to name but a few I enjoyed

Could be wrong of course and its a great video with some great tracks on nonetheless

Take me back right now, right this second

I`d live this era on a loop for the rest of time

Deffo 89 though was held in response to the boat tragedy in London where it was originally going to be held.
Regardless of when it was though this is a fantastic video of what for me was to become the greatest era in music

It definitely looked a very simplistic time. Just everyone out for a dance (clearly off their heads😂)

No fighting or trying to pull birds. Just look at them in the zone enjoying the music and vibe. You hardly see anyone talking.

The actual rave scene was a few years before I could have appreciated it. I was a full on 'clubber' 90s and 00s regularly going to The Orpra House (slinky) and Cream (Liverpool) Fabric (London) and even Wigan Pier for a bit of scouse house . I always feel gutted I missed the rave scene as to young. I'd definitely have loved it.

I did attend a couple of rave nights at 17-18 at Bagley's near King's Cross after Boro away games. I look at them now on YouTube and it's full on pill heads in tracksuits. I think they were Dreamscape events.

Oh great days🤘

TBH It looks a bit rubbish to me....

However, if they're all having a good time, and not doing anyone any harm, that's what matters! (y)

I was 17 in 89 and fully immersed in this scene. Back then it felt like a secret society and we'd discovered what the masses hadn't. I loved it and look back on 89-94 as the time of my life.

That looked very tame for a rave not much gurning going on & sweating your t*ts off considering things back then were much stronger.

I had already been blown away by house in 1986 Bennets believe it or not the soul night on a monday got myself a pair of decks & learned how to mix. been on stage with a few of the acts back in those days with my white overalls on Kevin Saunderson Utah saints zero b bass value etc. I usually had a camera on my shoulder filming the crowd when bass value were on stage but a lot of the other acts would ask me to stay on for the rest of the night most of the time the camera hardly had any film in it they couldn't afford it.
It was a mental time never touched drugs at all back then believe it or not didn't start those antics till mid 90's was immersed in this lifestyle for over 25 years & I miss it every day.

I’m sure there’s a few on here who went to these raves and might find this interesting.

As someone who only started going out circa 2004 to retro, I loved watching it. Some serious focus to the music going on.

Defo 89, there was a big lisa stansfield influence on lasses dressing like her at the time. Even if they didn't like her music. Some lasses in the video are dressed like her

This was a little bit before my time, but everyone looks like a robot, in a trance.
I wonder what the actual ratio was of people on gear/ not on gear, gotta be 9:1 at least?

I can just about remember Ibiza ( remember Amnesia - apt name ) I never took gear but the scene at the time was indeed hypnotic
