Mine is the mother of all seasons, the best team we have had, IMHO mind

26th December 1973
Boro 2 Sunderland 1

Boysend for this game, with my younger brother, massive crowd & a late, late show from 6 foot 2, eyes of blue, Stuey Boam is after you, our best ever captain & CH

Our 21st consecutive game without defeat infront of 37k fans

Alan Foggon put us one up, Sunderland levelled then with the clock ticking down Stuey Boam bags the winner

Doesn’t get better than that.Remember it like yesterday.

I was there that day too and definitely my favourite ever Boxing Day game.. despite getting chased back to the car by a bunch of unhappy locals!

Such a surreal goal with their entire defence going missing and Wilko having half of St James Park to himself! The one thing I do remember was it took ages for the Scoreboard to update the score from 0-0 to 0-1 and there was a huge cheer from the Leazes End, like another goal when it finally updated!

went to the game but somehow in my head Alan Willey scored the winner but he was not even playing maybe a season or two later ! Another cracking boxing day game was in 1976 when we beat Villa 3 - 2 I think Andy Gray scored for them and David Mills bagged a hat trick (just looked it up) funnily enough the Alan Willey game was also 1976 but in Sept so I am miles off

Boro 3-1 Man United

Riverside was rocking
MY first season with a season ticket that. If i remember rightly, we had a great home record that season. Sure we beat Liverpool 1-0, beat Newcastle and thumped Tottenham or that may of been later. I was in the West Stand lower towards the away fans then and even that was bouncing.

Well good morning @Erimus74, hope you are keeping fit and well old man.

The boxing day game, generally, has been my favourite for many years, if at home. Having lived away for many years, I am often home for Christmas and would buy my dad and nephew a ticket for the boxing day game until about 10 years ago. My dad asked me not to anymore, he was getting old enough to not enjoy it anymore.

My pick of those games was boro against man utd. We won 3-1 and the reason I liked it, was it was the first game my dad seen us win at the riverside. Not sure of the date but was early 2000, maybe 1 or 2.

if memory serves Boksic got 2 goals, can't remember who got our third was it Nemeth? I think Giggsy got the goal for man utd, but who cares!

Wasn't my first but was my most memorable/favourite.

The whole ground was electric.

You are right, our home record was excellent. Only beaten twice at home all season. Once by Villa and once by Arsenal.

It was Massimo's first season and he started with a bang.

I was in the home end that game, on the side terrace, for some reason I was unable to get a ticket in the Boro end, travelled reguarly back then
When Wilko was bearing down on goal I had to grap the barrier I was stood against so tight & when he scored I was screaming inside & forsoem daft reason I imagined fans around me knew I was a Boro fan even though I was stood so still
