The Penny camp now claiming she has 90 odd names so if true she’s close but how true that is no one really knows.

If she gets her 100 she‘s in.
too many racists in the general party.
what a shower this country is in the eyes of the world.
Yep definitely

That’s what they are hoping for trying to get the bojo zealots on board.

If she doesn't get close then either Sunak as 270 odd votes or a lot of Tories haven't bothered to vote, which would be a disgrace.

The ERG aren't backing either candidate. I actually think a few more will be in the same boat.

Other than tweets offering support, I don't think the final list of nominees is published?

Think the list will be published at 2pm, which might be why there's a few urging Mordaunt to drop out to avoid that.

If 20-25% of Tory MPs can't bring themselves to vote for either of their leadership candidates, that in itself is a damning statistic on the conflicted, directionless, ungovernable mess that party is in.

Not entirely in agreement with you there. If they dont vote they are basically saying they dont want either as leader. Thats better than voting basically to stop the other from winning isn't it? Don't get me wrong though. I dislike them all and there should be a GE now.

Not sure on this one. They are basically saying they are happy with either which is better than choosing one and then losing and having to answer afterwards why the PM didn't get their support. The ERG have specifically mentioned the NI situation as being neutral because the 2 candidates have the same stance on it so they don't oppose either.

I meant a disgrace in that we would be getting a PM with barely a majority from within the party.

Can't say I agree with that, as backbenchers they have a free vote, without any concern that it will destroy their political career. If about 100 of them haven't voted, then that seems to be because they simply are not a passionate supporter of ANY of teh candidates. The Tory problem is that the direction of various candidates is so polar, that they are not united.

Sunak now faces a vocal and sizeable minority of Johnson acolytes in the backbench ranks, plus a conservative membership that is largely Johnson and think Sunak is a snake. He faces an ERG who are diametrically opposed to his fiscal policies.

He's got one hell of a problem just to form a capable government with enough talent to fill the positions he needs with people that agree with his policies and he can trust to not stab him in the back at the first opportunity.
