40 selected fans all expenses paid to Qatar

A group of 40 England fans will be paid to attend the upcoming World Cup in Qatar and deliver positive PR for the gulf state…..

Once in situ, fans will be expected to sing certain songs during matches and report critical coverage on social media in return for free accommodation as well as a spending limit of £60-a-day.

40 supporters have signed up to the ‘Fan Leader Programme’, along with fans from the 30 other competing countries.

One document sent to fan leaders provides details of the obligations attendees are expected to meet during the opening ceremony which takes place on November 20.

It reads: ‘In celebration of the fans around the world, over the period of five minutes, fan chants from each nation will be played and you will be expected to stand up, sing the song/chant, wave your flags and represent your country.

I have never been less enthusiastic for a world cup.

We should have just boycotted it as it's a human rights disaster of a tournament and will historically be looked at a bit like the Nazi Olympics.

I don't think I'm going to watch any of it and I usually love the world cup.
 
I’m sure I read that the English fans included some of the godawful England band, like anyone needed another reason to dislike them…
 
It’s pretty chilling isn’t it how contrived this all is. Both a manipulator of the image of Qatar but then the more pernicious side with acting as a secret fan police reporting those not towing the line.
 
I'm pretty sure the owners of Newcastle are paying people to wave those perfectly designed and positioned flags at St James.
Looks awfully corporate, zero spontaneity.

I'm not so sure about that, the majority of Geordies seem to have bought hook line and sinker into this Saudi ownership lark, and so I wouldn't be suprised if they've come up with them themselves.
 
I said to someone the other day I’ve got zero enthusiasm for this World Cup simply because it’s getting in the way of the proper football season…..

And the sportswashing definitely isn’t working because we are all still talking about it…..
