64% of U.K. adults overweight ....

My BMI is healthy but if red wine, cheese and fudge is not removed from the world, it ain’t going to stay that way!

BMI gone down from 25.7 (overweight) during lockdown to 24.2 (ok) due to Wii Fit boxing and jogging and a lot of walking but struggling to get down further. Need to get back to golf again. The best exercise for my dodgy knee. (y)

Of course. I wondred if age was a bigger factor there. Obviously it is complex with no single factor - that's obvious. I agree on weight btw. As someone said earlier as nation we've gradually accepted weight gain as a norm. I feel we're a bit too influenced by the States with fast food, tv dinners etc.
Ha, you can't blame the USA for that!!!
One of the big things that I miss from the UK are pavements. Outside of the big cities not everywhere has them and you're basically walking on the road if you're walking at all.
I think it's nuts as, for example, it wouldn't be safe to allow my kids to walk to school( which is prob a 20/30 mins walk so viable).
Yet, these figures suggest that people in the UK aren't using them or they are but just eating so much more?
Are kids still walking to school?

it’s the acceptance of fat and being overweight that is the real problem. You can see people language on this thread as well. It’s a problem.

when I’m at 25-26 bmi and I tell people I’m trying to lose a bit, they say there’s nothing on me. When I measure my waist it’s 35-36, and 36 is the risk number. Jeans are 32, but you have to measure your waist properly to know if your in the risk.

I would say 90% of people over 25 bmi are genuinely overweight.

Maybe not blame per se but they'res an influence. Its the language. I believe other European nations are slightly less influenced by the States due to the language barrier.

In the last 2 years I have gone from Morbidly Obese, to Obese, and now in the "overweight" category.

I still have a way to go, but cant see myself ever being "target" weight for my 6ft 2" height, as I havent been that weight since I was about 16.

Amazing work. Keep going on your current trajectory and you might be surprised.

I stood on the scales this morning - blimey:oops::oops:. Lockdown has had an effect, and it isn't a good one. Should be okay if I can keep the exercise levels up - it seems to be the best way of regulating my food intake. Need to lose about 7-8 kg.

I'm no expert on any of this but it'd be interesting how this would apply to somewhere like Italy, with so many deaths yet on the whole, a much thinner nation with on average a healthier diet? I don't have the answer.
Don't people with a Mediterranean diet tend to live longer, thus they had a larger old population to succumb to the virus.

6 foot 1, broad shouldered, and I've gone from 18 stone and change to 16 and change over the last 14 months. BMI from about 33 to 29. I still need to loose a stone and a half. But I will look anorexic if I loose much more than that. But I'll keep at it, keep improving, keep exercising and keep my reduced food intake

Yeah I said earlier age (bigger older population) may have been a greater factor there to explain deaths whereas obesity might explain it better here.

What do you mean? Muscle mass increases the risk of a heart attack?
To maintain muscle mass you have to exercise and stress your body, you can still eat unhealthly have blocked arteries and restricted blood flow to your heart while having muscle mass. Which means that the weight lifting can be dangerous, if you have a bad lifestyle eating lots of bad fats. I think that's what he means?!

I don’t know what he means but one should try and maintain muscle mass to prevent heart attacks and strokes in later life, especially men.

I have a BMI of 33.1, im 47years old, I'm 5' 9" and 16 stone with around 12-14% body fat and yet im considered Obese.....madness
