95p for a first class stamp!

Shocking. To be fair a book of 6 can last me over a year.

The only thing I post first class is birthday cards and often send them special delivery as posted with money or vouchers.

Anything in this world not going up in price? It would be nice to hear something has come down lol.

Do Royal Mail spend money separating the first and second class letters and then put all 2nd class in a box in the corner for a day. Or do they just deliver everything as soon as they get it?

Genuine question as it seems they do more work to slow down the 2nd class than they would if everything was treated the same. There is a distinct possibility that I am missing something important.

The price of stamps is a funny one. The prices seem to be rising too fast but if we didn't have the postal service and someone invented it today and said you can send a letter anywhere in the country, no matter how remote to arrive next day for less than £1 then you wouldn't believe they'd be able to do it. It's still really good value.

No, they stopped doing this 2 years ago. My postie always tells us they don't treat first and second class any different now as it's cost saving to just treat all mail the same.

We use the postal service to send birthday cards and thought 95p for a stamp was cheap for the service you are receiving and as Nano said you wouldn't believe it could be done if invented today.

I also think there is nothing better than receiving a birthday card or a personal letter in the post. My wife still has all the letters I wrote to her when I was working away from home for months on end when we first bought our first house.

Too many are quick to knock this service but I wonder how many of the knockers would be up in arms if Royal Mail was to make people redundant. If you don't use it, you will lose it.

True Story - My mother-in-law used to write and send cards to a lady called Elizabeth Mail.

It forces me to have to put up subscription rates of the fanzine - and also did you know at the end of this year you will no longer be able to use red 1st class stamps anymore. You will have to put the stamps on with the price on them. This ends a practice that has been going on for years and years that a 1st class stamp or 2nd class stamp never go out of date.
Am sure this opens the door for as many price rises as the post office want to make.

Oh for goodness' sake.

"The price of first and second class stamps have more than doubled since 2010, when they cost 41p and 32p respectively. In 2000, it was 27p and 19p."

"..annual profits quadrupled to £726m in the year to 28 March - up from £180m a year earlier."

I’ve just gone through the draw and found some gold ones which must be 15 years old. Will they accept them? No price on them. I guess they will.

I believe Royal Mail have U-turned on that - it means Christmas stamps CAN still be used after 2023 despite shift to barcode system.

..and there in a nutshell is why free market capitalism isn't better than socialism for public services.

We're just lining the pockets of the rich. Remember when they sold it off and limited who could buy shares and sold it way below market value.

So as a pint of beer.

if you have a stack of old style stamps, you can send them to royal mail (free!) and they will replace with new style ones. there is a form to fill in on the royal mail website.
