Ah well, there's always next year.

It's not over yet, it's unlikely now but Wilder certainly won't be giving up. If we don't make the playoffs then yeah, gotta take what we've done brilliantly since Wilder came in and fix the weaker areas to have a go at auto next season.
 
I should have listened to my own doubts after the Barnsley game when I stated we wouldn’t make the playoffs. The evidence was all there then and some good results subsequently betrayed those doubts.

Im consoling myself with the fact that we definitely aren’t top 6 material and the table doesn’t lie. I agree with the OP - bring on next season.

Do we need a 20 goal a season striker?
I may stand corrected, but I don't think we had a striker in double figures the season we got promoted with Karanka.
The way we play, the passing, the movement, we may just need to have a couple of more ruthless, greedier players up towards the top of the field that aren't afraid to have a dig when the chance arrives and, if I'm being greedy, maybe a better goalkeeper than we have in Lumley (however, he's a typical Championship Goalie and I don't think we'll be able to afford another Randolph or Dimi).
I fancy Mcgree to get a fair whack from midfield next season and the money saved from Connolly and Sporar going, plus the income from Spence, we may get the two forwards we need and a 3rd for the bench. 🤞

But then we'd just be playing out of form players in a different system?

As for injuries/suspensions, Bamba was poor today but excellent on Friday so I can understand picking him and McGree probably looked better than Crooks has recently anyway.

I actually think the ruthlessness of the changes in the summer might shock a few. We have some good players but whether they fit the exact requirements for the system, I'm not so sure.
 
remember we won 9 games at home on the bounce .... its gone pear shaped in the last month ... it can go ok again for the next 4 games, chin up and carry on
