airport queues

Are things back to “normal” now? Flying in and out of the U.K. over the next couple of weeks and wondering what to expect. Cheers!

Roary........yes and no !!
Depends which airport, and the volume of flights around the time your going to be there.

Thanks for the reply mate. From what I gather, most of the chaos has occurred early in the morning due to large concentrations of flights. I’m flying from Heathrow and Stansted (eek) with relatively short times to make my way through the departures but the flights are midweek/evening/outside of school holidays. £7 for the fast track is a no brainer anyway but thought I’d gauge recent experiences. Not seen too many dramatic news headlines lately.

Went through Newcastle airport yesterday check in and security really quick. A lot of flight delays and a few cancelations too.

Appreciate it pal. The world works in mysterious ways. Opened this thread at the same time Motown Junk by the Manics started playing on my speakers. I’m off for a lie down!

There are problems all over the airline and aviation businesses all knocking into each other to delay your journey.

*Air traffic controllers in France, Germany and Netherlands are short staffed
*Airlines are understaffed after the pandemic and can't run all the scheduled flights
*Airlines disposed of lots of older planes in the last 3 years and have no surplus capacity at all. If a single plane is taken out of service there's no spare one to replace it
*There are backlogs in supplying both new planes and spare parts caused by microprocessor shortages
* Check in and ground staff have been pared to the bone so absence or illness cause delays
*Airlines are reluctant to run any service which is uneconomic, so are cancelling. Then planes are in the wrong place so there's a knock-on effect
*Airlines cancelling uneconomic flights because of soaring avgas prices affects other airlines on the route. They get swamped, overbooked and delayed.
*Brexit has caused congestion at airport border controls where Brits first enter the EU - specifically Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and southern Spain.

Right now it's a melee and the English schools haven't finished yet. It'll be much worse after July 22.

Mate was supposed to be flying to Alicante from Newcastle today. Cancelled with hardly any notice. Just told to go home and see if he can re book for later in the week or another airport 😲
