Amazon Scam

The scammers are definitely getting more sophisticated so try to cover yourself as best you can - 2 factor authentication via an App is crucial for me - I will not use SMS only.

I've had a call from 'Lloyds Bank' that said we need to be sure it is you - I said, "You rang me so I will be verifying YOU not the other way around I will call my bank on the number they supplied on their website to confirm Lloyds Bank is trying to contact me." Click - dead line.

Lloyds (same group as Halifax) use the same mechanism to check it is you with a confirmation text - I think Nat West use their App to confirm on your phone.

I used authentication app (Duo) for ages, then during an IOS software update it logged me out of my authentication app. Which caused absolute hell as I couldn’t get back into numerous accounts as I couldn’t verify it without the code😵‍💫

OUCH!

Stick to MS or Google Authenticator - should be pretty safe there I would think - I've had issues that were sorted by both in a couple of hours
I haven't had dealings with Duo and don't know their background.

Sounded very convincing and easy to fall for if not on your toes, hopefully you get sorted

It was just suggested back when I first started using it. I just use apple's own one now.

I don't normally pick up on scammers (last one that got through was O2 offer of a new much reduced contract from Indian source ) but if I do I have my own script in my head and I take ages , whats your full name and role, how long you been with the company, which city are you speaking to me from , what is the time there, if its head office what's the name of the road etc, whats your boss name and job title ,, its quite funny, I just go fro it , they get very confused and tell me to go do terrible things , how outrageous !

Sorry to hear this, and yes they're b@st@rds, it sounds like a very convincing scam.

As a rule, I don't believe ANYthing over the phone, but if someone seemed to know what was in your Amazon basket it would be very hard to spot as a scam. Thanks for sharing the details.
