Amelia Coburn has released her highly anticipated debut album ‘Between The Moon and The Milkman’ produced by Bill Ryder-Jones alongside new single ‘Dublin Serenade’. The North-East artist will also be heading out for a run of UK headline dates in May.

From sinister encounters amid the bustle of Mexico City to reading Soviet-era satire under the Atlas Mountains via an essential stop at Dublin’s premier Leprechaun Museum, Amelia Coburn’s debut album ‘Between The Moon and The Milkman’ is an astonishing collection of songs and stories, all told with the unmistakable profile of Coburn’s North East homeland on the horizon.

Amelia found a kinship with producer and like-minded, free-thinking songwriter Bill Ryder-Jones (The Coral, Michael Head and The Elastic Band, Brooke Bentham, Saint Saviour) disclosing “I’ve never in my life worked with someone quite like Amelia and I still can’t quite put my finger on what she is! That’s a compliment by the way - she came in with these incredibly clever, moving songs that just blew me away... It would’ve taken me a day to record just her and her uke but she wanted a bigger sound, so we had a lot of playing around with these arrangements.”

Arriving with the album is new single ‘Dublin Serenade’ Amelia divulges “a dusk till dawn stay in Ireland’s capital in November 2017 is the premise for this song. It’s the oldest song on the album but still a live favourite!”.

Ever the prolific storyteller, she recalls, “At the Leprechaun Museum I met a man who worked there named Marc, described in the song as ‘an impish old chap’ (he’s neither impish nor old..), and he recommended the International Bar comedy night. It turned out the bars ‘comedy cellar’ is upstairs, but down in the basement I stumbled upon an open mic night and watched an amazing musician on stage - I wish I caught his name. As a cheapskate student, I decided I didn’t need to book a hotel and romanticised the idea of walking the streets of Dublin until the wee small hours. The rest of the song is a lullaby that takes us on a journey through the city at twilight…”

Hailing from Middlesbrough, Amelia has built a fearsome reputation for her immersive & mesmerising live shows; touring across the UK supporting a wonderfully eclectic range of artists such as The Wedding Present, Ashley Campbell and the late folk legend Vin Garbutt as well as a flurry of festival appearances including Costa Del Folk (Ibiza) and Cambridge Folk Festival.

Lauded by the likes of Clash, KLOF Mag, Songwriting Magazine, Far Out, Louder Than War, Spiral Earth, BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson & BBC Radio 2’s Mark Radcliffe, Amelia has rightfully earned her place at the forefront of an exciting new generation of alt-folk voices.

‘Between The Moon and The Milkman’ is out now.

I was going to buy this today but noticed the release just misses Bandcamp Friday. I'll buy it in a couple of weeks and Amelia can have all the money.

International Women's Day, nice.

Interesting that Bill Ryder-Jones (who's own album's are amazing by the way) from The Wirral produces both Amelia and another (female) Teesside act, Saint Saviour.
Amelia will be supporting Saint Saviour on a few upcoming shows.
