What’s not to like?

I went Friday night - usual carnage getting there (3 and a half hours).
Stayed with friend - left around 10.00 the next morning. M62 closed. Another 3 and a half hours journey.

Gig was 2 hours with a 30m min break.
5 songs - yup 5 (and one of them a new one as a homage to Tony Wilson could have been written by a 10 year old)

And his conversation was dulller than dull
All part of life’s rich tapestry

But, kept up my run of a gig a month which I’m committed to this year.

In the pipeline - Divorce, Adrianne Lenker, Nick Cave, Richard Hawley

Wow that's a labour of love. Five songs in two hours?? And probably not 15 minute versions with 7 minute melotron solo in the middle. Have noticed over the years some performers like to pad out the chit chat as they get on a bit, e.g., Richard Jobson, Jah Wobble. But at least their patter is decent. Sorry you seem to have been a bit stiffed there.

I hope you took your clothes off and asked him to leave.

Was he promoting a book or anniversary album? I've noticed more acts doing this - come along for a chat and throw a few songs in.

Agree - its a great album
Listened to it yesterday

No - just doing 3 of these intimate chats around the North West

His best anectdote ….

Meandering through an answer to one question he said
‘And don’t ask me what happened in Tony Wilson’s office’

Seeing the glimpse of an opportunity Chris Hawkins pounced
‘Tell us what happened in Tony Wilson’s office’

He then went on for a good 5-6 mins telling us (in summary)
That
Tony Wilson had told him he was quite good 😳
And - that was it

Do would you recommend it then? 😂

Went to see Neil Young at Manchester Apollo. It was an acoustic show and me and my late wife were sat about 12 rows from the front stage right. There was two seats in front of us empty. About 15 minutes into the show Badly Drawn Boy and another guy appear pints in hand and take said two seats. They then proceeded to talk throughout the songs. After about 10 minutes of chatter I tapped Damon on the shoulder and said" ow mate will you and your badly drawn friend sut the f**k up".

It seemed to do the trick. You would think however that a musician would show a little respect for a fellow musician.

I saw him in Sheffield last year. Was a weird night. He played a full set and talked about his career between songs, but he didn't seem to be in a very good place. Kept apologising (lots) for playing and singing poorly, kept saying that he just wasn't feeling it and was on a real downer. He sounded really good - said he gets like this quite often. And there was a random woman (stalkerish) who wouldn't shut up and kept shouting out words of encouragement to him, and he clearly was getting fed up of her. Songs great, but the rest of the performance was very awkward.

Strangely there was a random woman there on Friday kept shouting out stuff.
At one point screaming - ‘we love you damian’
He corrected her on his name

Probably the funniest part of the evening
