That Boro cup final team cost about 28m….Newcastle had a sub today who cost more than two times as much as our whole team. Even taking inflation into account Newcastle are at a different level financially

It's all relative though. We were probably closer to the top of the league (in terms of spending) than they are now. We also had a fairly cheap squad if you judge it on fees but we must have had massive wages. Mendieta, Zenden, Mills cost nothing. Juninho We also had about £15 on the bench in the form of Riggott, Maccarone and Ricketts.

We were big spenders back then.
 
British money though, earned by a local businessman who started a business in transport and his business partner. (y)

IIRC our budget was about 12th highest, we had a fairly small squad bulked up with cheap and low paid kids. Newcastle must be about 6th highest

I think it was one of the bigger transfers, but not the record. There's already been the likes of Bergkamp, Collymore and probably a couple of others that were £8m and over

No. It was a big transfer but only about the 4th or 5th biggest at the time. Our total squad cost was way down the list too, as we had a squad packed with cheaper layers too
 
There was definitely a trophy acquired by Newcastle players yesterday. Without doubt . Can't understand why some can't see it. However this was of the 'atrophy of the muscles' variety, on account of running ragged in 2nd half trying to chase down a 2 goal deficit. :LOL:
