I trust them. Although I don't 'rate them' (if that's a thing
)
The only times I've ever had to deal with them they have been fecking useless. I guess it's under funding or lack of man power (or some other drivel).
It's only minor stuff. A broken into car /garden shed. Pretty much no f*cks given and 'here's a crime number for insurance'. I even had cctv and had to practically force it onto them.
The very least I expect is a full CSI team or Gene Hunt turning up lol.
It’s not a case of the police being useless or “no f*cks given”. There literally isn’t anywhere near enough officers to put any time into a theft from car or shed burglary.
For example the most likely ways to catch the suspect quickly would be:
1. If he/she didn’t wear gloves, quick fingerprint and they’d likely be caught (assuming their fingerprints are already on police systems).
2. Their face could be seen quite clearly on CCTV - email sent round police officers - anyone know who this is? Almost certainly one of the cops will know, if they still weren’t identified put it on the local police website / Facebook page. Job done.
Problem with that is, even the most inexperienced criminals know to cover their faces and wear gloves.
Some cops might go the extra mile (If you live in a quiet area, little village in North Yorkshire for example, or if it’s an especially quiet day, or the whole team is in, no one on holiday or off sick or on training etc and it’s not too busy) and do a bit of CCTV enquiries further down the street / round the corner to see if they can get the suspect approaching your car before he puts on his balaclava or whatever.
But you certainly won’t get an investigation similar to that of a more serious crime (section 18 assault, attempt murder, rape, murder, firearms discharge etc), whereby the neighbourhood would have their doors knocked on to try and obtain CCTV, whereby they’d run ANPR for all cars in teh area at the relevant time and try to trace, identify and eliminate the owners of said vehicles, whereby they’d do press appeals etc etc etc
Often the people who “don’t rate the police” actually have no idea how insignificant the crime they have become victim to is in comparison with other crimes that have occurred that day and understandably the police have to prioritise.
