Andraz Sporar

Is he contractually committed to sign for us at the end of this loan spell? I'm sure I read that if stipulations were met then he would automatically become a Boro player.

Yes

15 goals
Or promotion

hence the count down thread from Erin us below

12 to go btw 😎

You have to think it was and promotion, as would we be able to afford it otherwise? Plus would the player agree to commit to it if we could still be in the championship.

15 goals and promotion in most media outlets.
15 goals or promotion in one local outlet, forget which.
Nothing official.
Boro tend to keep such things close to their chests though, so it's probably speculation based on the truth.

I googled it after he got his first. :D

Sorry, I know it's been a great day for the boro - but Sporar is too good for us.

Why?
He's scored 2 goals from open play and a penalty in 9 games, all 3 goals against teams who were in the bottom 4.

He's playing reasonably well, but it's not like he's tearing up the league.

Assombalonga had 5 goals in his first 9 games and he certainly wasn't too good for us.

I think it’s easy too the naked eye there is levels between Sporar and Assombalonga. Sporar movement, touch, awareness is a few levels above Assombalonga. The lad is pure class.

I'd say he's definitely better than Assombalonga, but I've seen nothing yet to indicate he's too good for us.

I thought it was 15 league goals and promotion meant we had to sign him for an agreed fee.
It doesn't mean that if he doesn't and we don't, then we can't sign him.
If he likes it here I think he will sign come what may.

Thats why stats don't always tell the full story. Just watch him play. Technically he is very good, but it's his movement that sets him apart. I havent see a Championship striker find space as easily as he does. He holds the line and times his runs extremely well and must be a nightmare to mark. However, all that space and good positions mean nothing if you dont get the ball and like I said earlier I think the midfielders are starting to understand that in the final third they should be looking to play a through ball for him.

For 9 games.

He's decent for us, and I hope he stays, but I don't think he's too good for us at all.

There probably hasn't been a more mobile striker for us in a while, but that's because we're a strikers graveyard, there have been plenty of strikers at this level at a similar standard.

From what I have seen he’s capable of premier league level. It’s interesting that all the pundits really are impressed by his movement too. Think he’s a genuine class forward. Hope he bangs some goals in now that we are on a run.

I think Tav is struggling, at the moment. Seems too desperate for a goal himself to play Sporar in. I think once he gets of the mark, he might start to do the less selfish thing, and they could thrive together. Payero’s confidence will also improve Sporars supply line. Future looks bright with Jones, Watmore et al also able to deliver good chances.
