If it’s for a special occasion - fantastic restaurant

Other than that its just a great city to mooch about in, take a plunge in the steam baths, walk along the river to the ‘shoes’ et al

Fisherman’s bastion and buda castle is worth a visit, there was a Hungary/Austria battle enactment at the time we were there, you can get an electric cart/bus to the top, or wait in a queue for a funicular, was a long wait for the funicular so we got bus
we did the boat up the Danube too, goes past the parliament building, looks amazing all lit up at night.

Get yourself to the beautiful Mazel Tov for some Jewish / Middle Eastern food. Its such a lovely setting - have a look at the photos in the link here https://g.co/kgs/L8pBU1f

Also, there's a lovely courtyard called Gozdu where there's a few restaurants and pubs altogether and its really nice https://www.gozsduudvar.hu/en

If you like nice beers then get yourself to Madhouse which is a lovely place with a Scandinavian Feel - https://www.offbeatbudapest.com/places/madhouse-craft-beer-bar/

Budapest is such an amazing city - I love it

We went last Easter as part of a European train tour, and it was one of our favourite cities on the trip - fantastic buildings. Spend a day in Buda and a day in Pest as a minimum. Castle / Fisherman's bastion has superb views over the Danube.

Wouldn't recommend the hotel I stayed in but Beerstro 14 was an absolutely superb restaurant at reasonable (by Western Europe) prices. Great selection of craft beers too. You'll likely need to book.

Stayed at the Boscolo apartments about 6 years ago. Lovely place. It's above the New York Cafe which is beautiful but expensive. As we were staying there, we'd walk through to the lifts at the back, the Cafe and the Hotel are stunning.

Champs sports bar is good for.....watching sports. There was a tiny bar opposite which looked liked someone's house. It was tiny but full of locals. We spent a few hours in there which was an experience.
Liquid Rock is a rock bar, we only went in during the day, but the music and the decor were excellent.

The indoor market, Central Market Hall, is worth a look. Buy your souvenirs and paprika in there. Upstairs you can get food and a beer, very cheap.

We went to the spa near the river, can't remember it's name, it was good but the one in the Park looks better.

Went in the Terror Museum. Tells the stories of the torture people endured in the various conflicts.

The public transport is good and cheap. Metro and trams. Think we bought one of those hop on hop off tickets for the buses but never used them after the first day as most things were walkable or next to metro stations.
We had a private transfer from the airport but was told when we got there that it was only a few pounds on the train.

So much to do there. We spent five nights there and scratched the surface.

Great place that we hope to go back to very soon.
