Anyone else unable to sleep?

Next doors kids are banging like hell, if it wasn’t for them I’d be sound asleep still

Me...dog woke me up at 3.30 4 a pee....stayed downstairs as it was chucking down and didn't want him in the bed. Was feeling a bit gippy (chemo), nothing major but took one of my tablets at 4....by 4.20 I was ravenous so had a small banana...now knackered but can't sleep listening to the birds!

I was awake to about 3 fell asleep until 0510, then couldn't really relax as I knew I had to get up at 6, on my way to work now for a 14 hour shift which in the last few months has started to give me knots in my stomach in anticipation of it. Me and regular sleep have a chequered history, I'm still struggling to get back to semi normal after my holiday.

I'm in a bad cycle of sleep at the moment. I seem to be waking up at 3 every morning and then dropping off for an hour or so, before getting up.
I've been here before and it takes its toll in the end.

I've always been a bad sleeper. 3-4 in the morning is my prime time for waking, usually coming back to bed about 6, then an hour's sleep and up for the day. I learned to accept it years ago as part of who I am.

I used to sleep like a baby until I retired last year now I wake up in the middle of the night for a few hours. I'm reading at least a novel a week now in the early hours.

Not wanting to sound like your mams, but being on your screens during the night definitely won't help with sleeping :(

(Incidentally I'm regularly awake for an hour or two between 2-4am (but never go on my phone))*

*OK, for full honest disclosure, I did look at one text last night, but it's very unusual!

Why does it always happen like this? You've had barely any sleep all night yet 10 minutes before the alarm goes off fall into a deep sleep.

Our rescue cat has come out of its shyness phase over the past few months, and I’m convinced she’s going to start talking soon. 03:15 this morning, squeaks to go out! It has a chip controlled cat flap, but the b***r won’t use it 😂

There is research on sleeping patterns that suggests that sleeping for a straight seven/eight hours is actually just a modern construct/expectation. Many people thrive on a split sleep pattern, sleep for four hours, wake up, do a bit of reading, cup of tea perhaps, piddle and then have another sleep for three/four hours. Don't beat yourself up about it and let your body find its own rhythm. I often wake in the night and listen to a bit of spoken word audio (podcast/radio/audiobook) and then go back to sleep.

I know it's obvious but regular exercise - getting your heart rate up and feeling it during the day - does aid sleep.

Apple Watch feeds some useful date through on sleeping patterns to your Health App and it shows how long you are in REM, then deep sleep and then awake and offers advice via links based on that data.

I was sceptical about trying CBD oil but have to say it's been as good as all the reviews, I still wake up earlier than I'd like but I never struggle to get to sleep now.

Son was asking about this as he seems to be having a bad time of sleeping of late. I don't know all the ins and outs - is there a recommended dosage and possibly brand you know of that I could pass on for him?

Great if you don't disturb the SO but hard to do if they wake because of your nocturnal habits :)
