Anyone had a DNA ancestry test?

i've done Ancestry and 23andme tests (and uploaded my Ancestry results to Myheritage. I was b 1948 and adopted so I'm trying to discover who my father was (I'd already found my mother) so I wasn't doing tests for my ethnic origin but in order to find a close relative and hopefully trace my father from that. My birth mother wouldn't say who he was and what she did say might not be true. Her family have been in England (Northumberland/Cumberland/N Yorks)for several centuries and back in 1600s there was some Scottish and Irish input but the tests surprised me- i'm 50% East European. All 3 sites seem to focus on Poland as most likely.

Former Prisoners of War and workers from Eastern Europe who had fled from there (from fascism or later from communism) or fought in the Second World War for the Allies were employed as farm hands on farms in northern England near where my mother lived (Northallerton) and worked (Scarborough) for some years after the war ended. This has made me wonder if my father could have been one of these workers. Another possibility is that my father may have been a US serviceman with Eastern European heritage, maybe his parent/s had emigrated to US. I say this as there were airfields near where my mother lived and at this time it was the end of WWII and the beginning of the Cold War. Obviously anything is possible but those scenarios seem most likely.

So at least DNA tests have given me a clue if not the answer I was looking for.
Very interesting , hopefully something will come up out of the blue one day soon, maybe there is someone somewhere who knows the truth or who can help you.

I'm descended from Charlemagne.

(and so is everyone else).

I read something similar I think it was 0.5 per cent of the male population worldwide are descendants of Genghis Khan - not sure how these fellas won so many battles when it seems all they did was sleep with every woman in sight!

Lots of testosterone flying around for sure. Suppose it's not like they had Netflix.

I'm sure it's right, it's just maths at the end of the day. Love owt like that me though, anything that makes you rethink your preconceptions.

I'm a descendant of Niall of the nine hostages apparently. although i would imagine most men from the north west are!

Did mine and I was predominantly North European and German with a smattering of southern European and Mediterranean. This pleased our mam as she was convinced we had Mediterranean blood somewhere as dark hair, brown eyes and olive skin runin our family. She did hers and was happy to see France Libya Spain and Italy in it. I clearly got the boxhead DNA from my dad. Maybe the Mediterranean stuff could go back as far as Roman occupation?

My direct Great Grandad ( X something ) is ROLLO of Normandy - who in turn is WIlliam The Conquerers Granddad. No DNA required, tracing family is a cinch when your a bit royally - my dads side are pretty much peasants.

My Paternal Haplogroup which links son to father is E-V13 and traces back to a man who lived approximately 11,000 years ago which is about 440 generations. I share this common ancestor with the Wright Brothers (Orville and Wilbur) for certain, and possibly President Lyndon B Johnson and Guiseppe Garibaldi
