Out of boredom a couple of months ago I started trying to work out the benefit of Britain's vaccine policy, the bonus if you will of access to AZ and using our own timings rather than the recommended gaps.
I backdated to Jan 1 to encompass the **** show of deaths following the Fat Clown getting Christmas wrong and not closing schools early enough.
(I used Europes "big" population countries Germany/Italy/Poland/Spain & France as comparisons and chose Deaths as the discriminator.)
Our World in Data as the numbers supplier.
Sure enough, our carnage due to the previous mistakes led us to being the absolute Death Capital of Europe for cumulative 2021 all the way through to the end of May when Germany went past us.
On a per head of population Poland went past us Mid April and Italy went past us early May.
France and Spain have remained safer places than the UK on both measures all year.
Our absolute carnage at the start of the year meant that 90% of all UKs covid deaths in 2021 occurred before the end of February and the vaccine policy was definitely stalling the death rate in the UK at a substantially faster rate than in any of the the other big 5 from that point as we protected the most vulnerable faster than the others. The vaccine benefit
But then the Fat Clowns masterstroke - The Johnson variant. As our vaccination rate stalled at the same time Delta hit us after his 3 week delay our decline in death rates stalled and has in the last month started to increase.
Then something in yesterday's update threw up something I'd not looked at before. If you added up the other 5 nations absolute deaths and compared them to ours more people died in the UK than in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Poland added together. Spain rarely reports numbers over a weekend so it may be a blip or it may be a worse position in a weeks time.
But for that fact to occur the day before he then goes on to announce all current restrictions will end next Monday struck me as giving up on any Vaccine benefit as far as the health of the population is concerned, not just in terms of Covid, but extending all the other medical problems that have pushed waiting lists to the umpteen millions.
He's ****ed it up and spent the benefit.
