they might come and park the bus.
england dont have to win, a draw is ok in the context of the group (but not good enough for the fans, who would then give Gareth & players grief).
scotland cannot afford to lose again.
Not sure I agree with that assessment BM. Iceland are ranked below Scotland in world rankings. I know I know, what are the worth of the FIFA rankings, but the point remains, teams fail to deliver regularly. We all expect England to dominate the game and win, as they should. Football is not nearly as formulaic as that though.Scotland winning wouldn't be far off Cameroon beating Argentina in 90 for shock value. It would certainly be a bigger shock that Icelands win against us, as Iceland were at least competent.
There will probably be a scrappy first 20 mins, but if we move the ball around quick enough we will run the legs off the Scots, then they will be in big trouble. I'm going 3-0 England, for all the talk of our defensive weaknesses we have 5 cleansheets in our last 6 matches and not a lot of clear opportunities conceded in those games.
I think that is a very good point. Apart from anything else, neither team will want a draw. You cannot take the emotion out of football, nor should we want to.Can Scotland afford to park the bus?
Should Croatia beat Czech Republic an hour before England v Scotland, that leaves 3 sides on 3 points and Scotland on 0 before kick off.
So a draw for Scotland would still have to ensure they beat Croatia, which is unlikely. Even 2 draws wouldn’t be enough, depending on the Croatia v Czech Republic game. Scotland will need to come to win.
If they had won / drawn against the Czechs yesterday I'd have been fully behind geting Grealish in to pick the lock. As it stands, and as you mentioned, they can't sit deep, they need to come at us, so I'd look to put the quickest team possible out to hit them on the breakCan Scotland afford to park the bus?

Not sure I could take Scotland beating us at home in both Football and Rugby in the same year, doesn't bare thinking aboutI've got to say the more I'm getting more and more nervous about an upset. Scotland are getting written off by more and more people. Getting questioned about their quality and they'll be seeing the meme's online of the goalie etc...It's all fuel for extra motivation. It won't be the first time in my lifetime they've beaten us at Wembley and they've always had a smaller pool of 'quality' to choose from.
I’m pretty indifferent towards them but you have to laugh at the fact they waited 23 years to reach a major tournament and got done from the halfway line in the first game.As a kid I always wanted them to do well, Argentina '78.. Ally's tartan army.. Souness..
Now I tend to be hoping they embarrasse themselves.. halfway line was excellent yesterday..
I'm usually keen to see them do well, but needless talking down of the England team this year has annoyed meI’m pretty indifferent towards them but you have to laugh at the fact they waited 23 years to reach a major tournament and got done from the halfway line in the first game.
Best of luck with that roofie. I am going to be insufferable all weekend when we stuff the English.No.
Just looking forward to thrashing them 1-0 on Friday

I may also get an Internet outage for a couple of days.
Just watched the BBC highlights where Rob Green pointed out that a goalkeeper is only ever that far up the field because the coach has insisted on it. As he says, no goalkeeper is comfortable being that far out of their goal (and as a former keeper I would have to agree with him). According to him, they usually only do it under protest. He's actually already started to retreat, he was another 5 or 6 yards in advance of this at one point.
I think it is more to do with Scotland having a small population. Yes once in a generation or 2 you will get a cluster of good players.Would the Scottish National team survive in the Prem? Or even the Championship? Or lower.
Scottish football is probably at its lowest for many many years.
Where are the Souness, Gemmill, Hendry Dalglish, Law, Bremner types?
Would any of the Scots even got into an England squad?
Maybe its a reflection of UK football and the Prem being saturated with foreign players?
I would argue Andy Robertson would get in but he'd probably still stick with Trippier.Would the Scottish National team survive in the Prem? Or even the Championship? Or lower.

If the influx of foreign players was to blame England would have suffered the same way, I would have thought.
Wouldn't the same happen to English players also though? The collapse of the standard of the SPL means that there are fewer resources within Scotland to develop players. Also, anyone half decent gets bought by one of the big two and often gets benched.
Also Scotland (and Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland) can no longer rely on the top English teams developing talent for them. All those Scottish teams from the 70s, 80s and 90s had a large number of players playing in the English top flight. The influx of foreign players has meant that Scottish players have fewer opportunities to play at a higher level, so end up marooned in the SPL or the Championship.
