Ayala refuses to play

This was my worry when I heard he wasn’t in the “pre season games” be sad if it does end this way though.

Can understand his reasons for not wanting to play but he's going to severely damage his reputation with our fanbase, especially if we end up going down.
True, but the writing was on the wall when they moved down south surely? I know he might end up at Leeds (if the money is good enough although I don't think he'd get many games in the PL) but if it was always his intention to stay at Boro they'd have surely just looked for a place closer to Teesside.

For that matter, he won’t play in the two games that are scheduled to take place before his contract lapses on June 30.

So that’s that then.

maybe we will see him back for becks charity game (providing its not in feb of course)

No surprise, as I have said many times he has taken the **** out of the club season after season with these ‘injuries’. Absolute *********

I'd forgotten that his contract expires June 30th, which will be before the actual end of the season. Now that I think about it he is within his rights not to sign up for a short-term extension.

He should still play in the two games remaining before his contract expires though.

I just think agreeing to sign a short-term deal would have been a nice gesture, especially when you conisder we are in a precarious position and could really do with him on the pitch.

Tbh I couldn't give 2 terds about Ayala I'm more interested in howson staying on, he oozes quality

Nice gesture but if he gets injured it puts him in no man's land at a time when wages are (I imagine) about to take a nosedive in the EFL.

But on the flip side, fans are not going to support his decision if we're in relegation trouble.

For a bit of balance has it said anywhere he has refused to play? Maybe the club have said he doesn't have to for a decent shift for all these years

We have had to get by without him so much in recent times his loss is nowhere near as big an issue as it would have been a couple of seasons ago. It will tarnish for some how they feel about him, particularly if we go down but anybody who believes loyalty is still a virtue of footballers is living in dreamland.
