Ayling and Thomas

The entire team were shocking today but these two were a disgrace. Kept getting caught. Too slow tracking back and offered nothing going forward. Leeds are laughing at us over Ayling and Greenwood. I watched Ayling closely and don’t believe he even tried. Jogging around.

What’s the point in playing two players who won’t even be here next season.

Anyway. UTB.

Personally think Ayling has in general has just not worked out.

Not been impressed with OB either.

I can accept getting beat, it's part and parcel of football, but we have been shocking today. Lose with a bit of an edge, give it everything, not just a wimpering wet fart.

I think you had to play your best players regardless of being on loan or not while the playoffs were still a possibility, that is well and truly gone now so get Engel and Dijksteel in the side.

Based on what I've seen Engel is probably better than Thomas anyway. Dijksteel is pretty poor though but like you say at least he's our player and there isn't anything on the line anymore.

Agreed. OB and Azaz really shocked me today. Were fantastic last week but shocking today. Azaz has yet to have a good home game.

The issue with our midfield is that there is only Howson who will put a foot in, O'Brien has bundles of energy and likes to bomb forward but then you're left with Barlaser as your cover which just isn't his game at all. I like that we look for footballers now after years of having yard dogs in midfield but you still need one of the two to get in the opponents faces and put a challenge in or at least be competent defensively. Teams have been strolling through our midfield unchallenged all season.

O'Brien, Hackney and Barlaser would all be better with someone like Clayton or Leadbitter next to them so that they can go and play.

We spunked two wages on these

Engel is the worst footballer that’s ever been, apparently!

Those 2 haven’t improved us. Generally speaking of course. Can’t single anybody out today. All ***** !

We've probably promised to give Thomas some game time seeing as how he was recalled from Sheff Utd because he wasn't playing but yes I thought he was really poor today.

Agreed. Bring back Boateng

Thomas in particular was very poor. Ayling’s lack of pace is a big problem. That said, not one player emerged with any credit today. It was dreadful and the worst performance I’ve seen from Boro.

I’ll give Ayling credit for not hiding second half. As awful as we were defensively first half, second half was gutless and too many players didn’t want to be out there. Never thought I would criticise this team for not putting in the effort, lack of quality yes but work rate no.

Thomas and Ayling are not our players
Seeing as how we are going nowhere I'd be tempted to start those who are in the main until the end of the season
O'Brien and Greenwood too unless we're looking to buy them
Was not impressed with O'Brien today

Agree with the tone of the thread. I was looking forward to seeing Ayling as I’ve been a fan of his, however he’s not shining. Maybe the wrong side of 30, legs gone etc?

It was hard for anyone to come out with any credit today but I thought both full backs (and Barlaser) were amongst the worst candidates.

Ayling was alright. He's clearly not the Ayling that played under Bielsa. Yet that's why he is with us and leaving Leeds in the summer.

He was signed out of necessity. We didn't have a RB. I don't think either him or Thomas were brought in to improve us. Just fill gaps for a short period.

Thomas looks poor. I imagine he's also on a few quid. In a world where the club is having a PR disaster with ST price hikes. He seems like a complete waste of transfer budget (loan fee) and wages.

We are also getting to that stage of the season where loan players know they won't be with us next season. So dropping into mid table obscurity isn't ideal when 3-4 don't really have 'anything to play for'.

Let's be honest, the whole team where shocking today..

Ayling Thomas O'brien Barlaser Mcgree Azaz Silvera all very poor..

Poor teams have sussed us out, Plymouth 2nd worst away record in the league, pushed on with a quick press, while we tippy tappy at the back, then win the ball back and attack... well played Plymouth..
