Boro’s online Art of Ayresome exhibition featuring works by a number of celebrated artists has inspired Boro fans to get creative and share their own artworks.
Art of Ayresome is a collaboration between Boro, Manchester Metropolitan University historian Dr Tosh Warwick, Heritage Unlocked and Creative Factory Middlesbrough, and has inspired dozens of submissions from members of the public.
Fans have shared an array of drawings, graphics, paintings and sketches celebrating the history of the club’s time at Ayresome Park that are now on display as part of Art of Ayresome.
Creations received include depictions of life on the terraces, portraits of 1980s stars and a fitting tribute to ‘Charlton’s Champions’, shortly after the England World Cup winner and legendary Boro boss sadly passed away.
Dr Tosh Warwick, Art of Ayresome curator, said: “The exhibition has received an overwhelmingly positive response. It has helped evoke memories of Ayresome Park for many fans, helped share the club’s history in a creative way, promoted artists’ work to new audiences and provided an uplifting distraction for fans during the challenging times posed by COVID-19 restrictions.
“When developing Art of Ayresome we were keen to provide an opportunity for the fans to draw inspiration from the exhibition and be creative during these challenging times and share their own work inspired by Ayresome Park. It is fantastic that through the ‘Ayresome Art Club’ we have been able to interact with fans and provide a platform for sharing these football-inspired creations.”
Fans interested in submitting their own work for consideration for inclusion in Art of Ayresome’s ‘Ayresome Art Club’ can find instructions here.
