Ayresome Park redevelopment proposal

Does anyone know where I can see that artist's impression of the plan to redevelop AP as an alternative to relocating to the Riverside?

I think it was Colin Henderson's preferred option. Or maybe Henry Moszkowicz's.

I think Doom to Boom only shows the proposed exterior?

I can't recall ever seeing the proposed interior.

If we'd wanted to stay in that locality, we'd have realistically had to wait until the hospital closed.

By then we'd have missed out on TLF, the cup and Europe.

And apparently there was a curse...

I genuinely think I may have some of the plans either in my garage or loft somewhere.. I was seeing a girl at the time who's Dad was involved in drawing up the architectural plans and I managed to get a copy of them. Not seen them in years but probably in a box I have of all my old Boro memorabilia from that era. Will have a look when I get chance although I don't recall them being that special.

Would love to see them if you do.

Have just dug out my doom to boom, there's an artist's impression of part of a redeveloped boys end and the outside of a new stand. Tried to photo and upload, but files are too large. If you send me your email in private message I could try that way?

Send it to yourself on WhatsApp and then upload that image. That’ll compress it. Or download the compress app.

Would have spent £30m redeveloping and then had to move anyway. Gibson truly was ahead of the game in the 90s and used the premier league cash well, just a shame he's been usurped by foreign billionaires. Actually says something about the fella that he didn't flog us for personal gain in the late 90s like Fat Freddie etc......

I am currently re reading Doom to Boom, haven't got to that bit yet but am enjoying a nostalgic trip back to those strange times!

I know we're all nostalgic for Ayresome but let's admit it: the Riverside was the right choice and Gibson got it right.
Definitely. Like all old English grounds Ayresome would just appear from nowhere but it was in decline and could be pretty awful too. Gibson was right to move. In hindsight the location chosen wasn't the best.

I haven't read anything from the Doom to Boom book but from memory of the Gazette at the time; Colin Henderson was proposing double-decker stands behind each goal but retaining the horrendous, imo, North Stand in its original form. So with that in mind, thank God we moved to where we did, even though I'd have preferred the alternative 'Ironmasters' site near to the Newport Bridge.

We’re there any other proposed locations for the new stadium. I know the land where the Riverside was built was ridiculously cheap, but there must've been other places under consideration?

If I remember there used to be a factory that processed animal bones where the Riverside now sits?
