I don't know if you have been following this on BBC 5Live but basically Matthew Hollis is attempting to drive across the British Isles between the most easterly point Lowestoft Ness to western Ireland (Dunmore Head) but without a Sat Nav or map and avoiding all A roads and motorways. He is using a compass and reckoning from the sun. Not easy in this present weather.
Initially he veered well off course until he realised that his compass was being knocked off course by magnetic properties in his car. But now he ahs found one corner of the car where readings are accurate.
The challenge is for Motor Neurone Disease.
He was hoping to get the Welsh borders today because he is anticipating trouble ahead trying to get across Wales and Ireland on minor roads.
Some challenge I think - imagine trying to get somewhere by only using minor roads and without following a map. Small roads have a habit of just ending.. As for B Roads there simply aren't many in most areas. And they are never direct.
