Barcelona Recommendations

Now then all. Seen some really good travel recommendations on here recently, so hoping I can pick up some myself!

We've just booked flights to go to Barcelona towards the end of April. Not booked the hotel yet, but it's looking like we'll be staying at the Occidental 1929, if that will influence any recommendations. Location looks pretty good.

We've both never been before, so are open to any recommendations on things to do/see, places to eat/drink etc. Only thing we're both not too keen on food wise is seafood, anything other than we're all good.

All recommendations greatly appreciated (y)

Going in May so can't give you any advice yet.

We've found a lovely airbnb in the Gracia district.

Great city - anything Gaudi Barcelona is worth a visit as of course is the Sagrada Familia, a must see. We really enjoyed the Montjuïc bike tour including the Olympic Stadium (organised activity).

Can't beat the hop on, hop off city bus tours, two different routes, one of which takes in Nou Camp.
Lovely city, enjoyed our time there

From what I can remember, from memory (influenced by booze):

La Rambla is one of the main tourist spots, but the restaurants and bars which line it are not all that great, and quite expensive, but you don't have to walk far from it to get better/ cheaper etc. Beware of pickpockets around this area mind, or anywhere in Barcelona for that matter, if you stand out as a tourist. each time I've been in a big group (about 5 times), at least one of the group has been pickpocketed, although it's never happened to me. Just keep wallets and phones in front pockets, and secure bags and you should be ok though.

Sagrada Familia is worth a visit, even if you just look at it from outside. Nou Camp is a must for a football fan, a tour is great but a game and a tour even better.

Pickpockets are in all major tourist spots throughout Europe but never have I had such problems than in Barcelona. Maybe just bad luck. Still don't let that put you off it is a great city.

I've only ever known it happen to my groups in Barcelona, but sure it's happened to people I know and not realised that's what it was. It certainly does happen everywhere though.

It's easy to protect from though, even if you're only semi aware/ careful, and should certainly not put anyone off.

Been quite a few times when I was on ships, but only ever for a few hours and once for the worst example of Dentistry I've ever encountered. Basically I always came from where the Cruise Ships were, but the good rule of thumb was always, when you get to Las Ramblas all the good stuff is to the right and all the dodgy stuff on the left. Turn which way floats your boat basically!

Not bad luck I'm afraid. Worst city in europe for pickpockets. Especially on La Rambla.

It's wonderful though:

Check out

Casa Batllo Amazing Gaudi designed house

La Rambla (but hold on to wallet) and Placa Real for drinks and food and Boqueria (spelling?) market both off the Rambla.

Parc Guell is nice, walk up the Gaudi house and not just around the mosiacs like most people do.

Camp Nou is worth a visit, especially if there is a game on.

Walk from the arc de triumf to Parc de la ciutadella which is pretty excellent and has a better fountain than the trevi in Rome in my opinion.

I'll try and dig out the adress too but there are a couple of bars near barri gotic that do "lecce pantera" which I would recommend. The bars themselves are old school, atmospheric and moody and the drink is something else!

Goudies house is worth a visit . Also the dancing fountains is really nice if you take some food and a bottle of plonk for a picnic .Take the metro but watch out for pickpockets as it can be really busy and cramped down there so prime territory. We saw them working in teams and must have taken about 7 wallets within a minute.

Also head up to Montjuic one day, Maybe get the cable car up it's a hell of a view.

Tibidabo has some good views over the city but unless you're there for a while it's not worth the trek.

I'm probably going to keep adding to this, I briefly lived there and things keep popping up to do.

I read that as "geordie's house" there  , and thought of this:
