Barnsley

What have they got that we don't. A striker ? A mid field ? A keeper ? A manager ? Whatever it is I hope we get it next season. Good luck to them.

I genuinely hope they do it. But I just don’t think they have the legs.

that being said I’ll be keeping them as my dark horse

If we miss out on the play offs them I hope to hell Barnsley make it and do the business.

Absolutely brilliant form they are showing. The lad who bagged a brace tonight is on loan but I think his loan finishes soon, well before the end of the season. He could be a big miss at the business end.

I think Barnsley are like that horse at Cheltenham who gets off to a fast eager start but then in the final stretch crumble. We just gotta keep on their shoulder then pounce at Wycombe 😁

He’s on loan from the USA so he won’t be going back until April 21 apparently. He will play against us for example.

But it is their style of play. Energetic and with the type of players that suit direct football.

Their style of play isn't much different to ours though, so that's not the reason they're on a better run than us.

That their players might be more suited to the style of play might be.

Personally, I find it refreshing that there's a young manager getting results with direct play as it makes the remarks about Warnock's football and his age seem daft.

They didn't make it into the top half of the table until mid-December.

If we got off to a fast start like that, the fans would want the manager's head.

Everywhere I’ve seen says he’s on loan until the end of the season?

Before Mowatt's red card I was thinking they could challenge for automatics, it'll be interesting to see how they cope without him. We struggled in January/Feb losing Tav and Fry, with them I think we'd be a lot closer.

You need to watch the movie moneyball to appreciate what is going on at the moment.

Billy Bean is involved and he is using a similar model that appears to be working.

I love oakwell as a ground.

Disagree with you there. I think it is. High energy high pressing.

Interesting comment from their coach.

“If we look at a player who is extremely talented, and his goals and assists are through the roof but he is not able to sustain an element of pressing and defending high up the field for 90 minutes, that is a red flag for us,” says Murphy. “There are lots of clubs that use data and have brought in analysts to push in this direction ... but at Barnsley it’s the principle, it’s the root of what we are doing. There are clubs that say, ‘We need to bring it in as an ingredient’ but here it is the bedrock. Like Brentford in a way and Red Bull on a global scale, data is the first thing that wipes out the noise for us.”

They have built a team well , using data ? Is that wrong ?
It is how the world works , no different in football .
You have to move with the times , going to a game and seeing a great performance , or , a bad performance can't be the final judgement .

Yeah, it definitely seems like he's at Barnsley till the end of the season.

Unless Orlando recall him early.
I read his loan is up just before the US Major League starts in April. They may allow him to stay on but the fact is he will be staying for the next 6 games at least by which time they may have confirmed their play off berth.
