Batley & Spen - Jo Cox's sister selected as Labour's candidate

Jo Cox's sister has only just joined the party to throw her hat into the ring. The party are bending their own rules to parachute her in.
And sh1tting all over the CLP by going over their heads like they did in Hartlepool. So desperate for a win that they'll pull a tasteless stunt like this. Disgraceful. Resign Sir Keith you useless sack of dog eggs.

Hopefully she wins it. (y)

Understandable in the circumstances don't you think?

Yes very. And understandable why they'd make an exception to the party's rules in this case.

The trouble for Starmer is now even if Labour retain the seat it'll be seen as unconnected to his leadership. It's not like this is something that can be replicated in other seats.

Did you just use the word Starmer and the word leadership in the same sentence?

How did the party sh1t all over the CLP bumface?

Genuine question pal, I was under the impression that she was voted for by 80% of the CLP members in a contest.

The central party choose the candidates that the CLP get to vote between. So they may have gone 80% for her out of who was made available, but if they'd had a free choice maybe they'd have gone for someone else.

Well, since she's only been a member for five minutes and as Superstu said the CLP can only vote for the available candidates that suggests to me that Starmer thinks that its perfectly fine to force a candidate on to people just because of who she is rather than because she has any relevant experience and that seems pretty s***y to me.

How do you know that?
Have some local members said so?

Have some local members said so?

Yes but of course some local members saying so doesn't necessarily make it so does it? I did say maybe...

Labour have done the same sort of thing recently in Bristol Wests CLP and then the party got decimated in the council elections there a few weeks ago. So it can have an effect when the central party overrides the CLPs in this fashion.
