I don't think I'd turn the offer down neither, but I just hope it doesn't harm his career and he ends rotting away in the reserves once all of Liverpools main CB's get back from injury.

He was Celtic bound before this late enquiry and they're a shambles right now, if he gets even a few games, this won't harm his career whatsoever and he'll always be able to say he played for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

He will probably end up on loan at Celtic next season.
The lad gets more money, Liverpool get low risk emergency cover, Preston get a fee with upside and lose his wage now. Whoever then loans and buys him have less financial upside potential on the deal as Liverpool will be in control.

I don't know whether you realise it or not but your wage on one contract has no bearing on your next contract.

I don't think that's 100% true, it creates an anchor point re what you think you are worth . Generally people aren't happy to accept less money .
