Looking for some guidance please from anyone who may have done this trip already, or looked into it.
The two of us (early 60s) are thinking of taking a trip on the Bernina Express maybe this June but have no idea of what to tag onto either end of the trip. Not even sure of which direction to go or whether to do both directions.
One option we thought of was fly into Zurich, head to Chur then take the Bernina Express south and then visit Milan and maybe Florence, or something along those lines.
Wife quite fancies flying into Milan then heading North and visiting some Swiss/Austrian alpine villages by rail. Vienna was looked at to visit but we decided we may do that as a separate trip in the future due to the travel time.
Planning on a week maybe 10 days , have no experience of the continental railways so that needs looking into. We usually just fly into the Med somewhere and bus/taxi/trip around to see things. We don't ski or hike the mountain trails so looking at a leisurely bumble around on trains, taking in the sights/sites and hopefully decent beer.
Since its for the Wifes birthday, bucket list and she's the boss (and says I talk [type?] too much these days) I suppose what I need to ask amongst all this is any village recommendations after heading North on the Bernina Express, that can be reached preferably by rail? Any and all alternative itineraries appreciated.
P.S. 3-0 to the Boro tonight.
