Bi fuel cars.. any experience?

Looking at a car that runs on bi fuel, petrol/lpg..

Any pros and cons from anyone who’s used them?
I have never owned one, but I was looking into LPG conversion for my XC90 before it packed up to try save on fuel costs and apparently it's getting less and less common for petrol stations selling it and is getting phased out.

The only downside of lpg is that it can be difficult to find a garage selling it near you. Mate had a Range Rover P38 with an LPG conversion. Ran absolutely fine (the car fell apart around the engine like all LR products) the only idiosyncrasy was you had to start it on petrol and run it for a few minutes before switching to gas.

My uncle had a huge 6.8 ltr American import 1976 ford pickup, he had a LPG conversion done in Holland where he lived, when be came back to boro he had to fill up with diesel because the closest place he could get LPG was Hartlepool or Exelby on the A19.

Cheers, the car I’m looking at does both bi file and just petrol for same price…

what made it appealing was range increase, reduced emissions and running cost..

I guess availability would affect all that…

I might have a look how many garages are doing it round here

I had a lpg converted Subaru legacy. Complete pain, permanently had to have lubricant dripping into the engine (it didn’t help in the end), it idled horribly and it became harder and harder to find stations with lpg (plus lpg went up steadily in price and the savings were becoming less and less)

In short, never again

I have refillable LPG in a camper van, normally fill up at Morrison’s Redcar. I don’t use that much so not a massive problem if it’s not available although might be a different story if I were running a car on it as the pumps are often out of service. Alternatives are Stokesley motors (more expensive) or the fuel station at Preston farm.
