Big Clubs poaching the best 'youth' at a pittance

All Premier clubs are very active - Ziege was poached but not a young player poached out of the academy. Chelsea have been terrible doing this mopping up young talent around Europe and until Lampard hardly any ever got an opportunity. The European part of the opportunity must now be under threat from EU work permits but will this mean they turn to hoovering up young British talent?
We all recall Nathan Porritt if school kids and their parents are offered lucrative deals then clubs like Boro or lower down the pyramid can be powerless to stop them, even if could be a massive mistake for the youngster's career development.

Luckily Thornaby managed to stop Chelsea getting their mitts on him:ROFLMAO:

I think he's a kitman at Hartlepool now

They've just signed an U16 from Derby as well for a reported 7 figure sum. Also I've read that Man United are raiding Derby for 3 of their U15 players as well. Only going to happen more and more with the new post Brexit transfer ruling. Its nothing for these big clubs to chance a million or so on a couple of young prospects. It's going to be hard for clubs of our size to hold onto our top young talent.

Is he, wow, from the point of a few the clubs wanting to him to playing non league level, not that im knocking it by the way, in such a short time frame

That's largely because Derby are trying to sell youth players so they can afford to pay first team wages with the takeover still in limbo.

Something has got to be done otherwise the current Academy system makes no sense at all.
May as well take the £5m a year running costs of an Academy 'A' status (that's the highest level that I think Boro run) and spend it elsewhere.
Why develop players for richer clubs to steal?
Brentford 2017
Brentford B Team 2019
Brentford decided it was simply too much of a risk that their academy – with so much competition on its doorstep in London – would produce enough first-team players to make that investment worthwhile. Instead they are focused on recruiting young players between 17 and 20 who have been released by academies in the Premier League, as well as talent from “undervalued markets” overseas.

I love seeing young players coming through and making their mark with Boro - if they are 'born and bred' then all the better.
But the current 'free market' approach has been abused for years by the rich elite.
Good to see Fulham get a decent fee for Harvey Elliott - still seems a bargain for such a talent but maybe this is the start of fairer times?
(I won't be holding my breath)

Why are Fulham entitled to compensation?

They are entitled to compensation following Elliott's transfer because the attacking midfielder left the club at the end of his contract while under the age of 24. Elliott was first registered as a Fulham player at the age of 11 in July 2014, and his formative years were spent at their academy.
He is not an ordinary talent. Elliott became Fulham's youngest ever player when he made his first-team debut at the age of 15 in a Carabao Cup match against Millwall in September 2018.
Later that season, he became the youngest player in Premier League history too — at the age of 16 years and 30 days.
After joining Liverpool, he also became their youngster ever player to start a match when he played against MK Dons in the Carabao Cup.

Why was this an important case?

This was an important case for the sale of young players as it was felt the outcome could disincentivise smaller clubs from investing in their academy set-ups.
The last major case involving the PFCC was with Ethan Ampadu, where the guaranteed award of £850,000 to Exeter was widely criticised. The highest fee awarded by the PFCC remains Danny Ings’ move from Burnley to Liverpool, where the Reds were ordered to pay £6.5 million.
Fulham have invested greatly in their academy set-up and were first awarded Category 1 status in 2012.
In the case of Elliott, it’s understood the player was felt to have similar potential to Ryan Sessegnon, who left for Tottenham for £24 million, with Josh Onomah heading the other way, in 2019.
The concern was that a nominal fee would have undermined efforts to develop young players.

Why is that funny. There but for fortune go I. It's a fine line between success and failure in football. Laughing at the failures is pathetic.
I wasn't laughing at his failure, rather my poor gag about Thornaby beating Chelsea to him. I don't think there is anything funny about a young footballer not realising his potential. I realise the emoji was open to misinterpretation but it wasn't meant to be a dig at Porritt.

Even though I usually enjoy our local rival struggles you've got to feel a bit sorry for Sunderland.
They are shelling out for top level Category 1 Academy status like us but have lost their best emerging talent.
Joe Hugill looks a real prospect - he is now at Man Utd. As he hadn't signed a contract he left for free. Will go to tribunal for fee.
Sam Greenwood is a bit older - he left for nowt to Arsenal. Now signed for Leeds for £1.5m.

When you're struggling for form to lose your best young academy players must really hurt?
Hard to keep players when large financial incentives are offered.
