I hear you

The thread has asked for the biggest reason for the decline in form this season …. And I think it’s because this current squad, this season, including all injuries etc has not been good enough to cope.

Last season got away with a lesser squad depth, this season this squad has had it highlighted

That's where the choice comes in. We have a very good first XI but we can't afford a very good second XI, and there's not much coming through the academy.

We could go for the big squad of mediocrity that we had not so long ago.
I disagree. I think a big squad of mediocrity is exactly what we've got. We have no star players this season.

We cant be consistent when we keep changing the back 4 on a regular basis and it will continue until he has a settled back 4. It certainly doesn't help the goalkeeper either. We have went through the same scenario with other managers Mowbray term springs to mind.

Huge mistake letting go of both Rogers and Crooks when there was still a big portion of the season left to play for. Why on earth we couldn't loan Rogers or sell him at the seasons close is just stupidity by the club and its management.
Crooks was a big presence in the changing room and on the pitch when needed , but again another stupid decision imho.

The players he is putting out, are showing very low confidence, at times like this you find out who you can count on, some just want to disappear when its tough going.

The home form and the tempo we start at is lacking, we don't seem to be able to match the desire and aggression visiting teams have shown in the early passages of play. Seem to think we have all day.

I think he's a bit of soft touch at times is Michael, but id stick with him if the recruitment and upper management can get him the players that can play his football. There's quite a few Id get rid of. I wouldn't keep any of the loan players, and there's a few have just not shown anything to keep them for.

We need 4 wins to ward off relegation, with them all back fit, we could do it.

I think something must have happened behind the scenes for such a dramatic fall since rogers was sold. I am a huge carrick fan but if he wont adapt and change tactics to get results from here on in then he deserves to go

I mean if we were to loan a player in surly it would be a winger with Jones getting injured and a Striker when we had none available

Reliance on loans for years especially last season meant half a new squad was needed this summer. That’s always going to be very difficult to replace that many players in one season. Season was effectively over before it began

Recruitment was poor and didn’t strengthen the positions we needed

Sold players and just didn’t replace them in January

The club is a complete mess and I don’t really have any confidence things can get any better under the current structure

Nothing to to do with management and tactics then?
It’s a factor but far bigger factors are at play. We haven’t even had a striker for 1/3 of the season.
Best player was sold in January.
With the possible exception of Bangura, we don’t have a championship quality LB or RB in the entire squad

Yes carrick has made mistakes but it’s what you expect when you bring in a manager who hasn’t managed a side before

Carrick not realising you can’t polish a turd when trying to make us play like Man City etc.

Perhaps some of the players seen it as a sign the club had no interest in the play offs and its has affected some players attitude, maybe that's why Crooks thought its time leave. I think Greenwood knows he's not staying, there nowt up front to play off and I cant make my mind up about Latte, as I haven't seen him enough yet.

What can Carrick say in the dressing room ?, "I know we have no chance of doing anything now, but next season we are buying better than you lot"

I thought early on and said on here it was as long as we stay up, the good run masked that we have lots of experienced players who aren't up to it not just the newbies.

I agree with that from the moment rogers was sold the mentality around the team changed the white flag was raised on the season

Losing Rogers was huge for me. Huge signal of direction from the club and dreadful decision which I argued against at the time.

Pace, presence, was full of confidence. Technically better than any other in the final third. On a strong upward trajectory.

Most importantly, created chances. By himself. Out of very little.

Sickened me off for the season. You don't let players go of that quality that easily. You sell others and to add to him.

Don't see the point in the model. Point would be surely to develop and sell mid level players for a. Profit but hang on to the ones that turn our the best for "sporting glory" or at the very least 25-30 million.

Depressing.

And yet, we are going to be in exactly the same situation this summer.
