Billingham Synthonia Centenary Dinner & Presentation Evening - Friday 10th May

Synners were gifted the ground and surrounding land, a massive opportunity, built a social club and then went on to make a 'dogs dinner' of it. The limited company went into liquidation and were saved by the guy who owns Camerons Breweries. His son in law became Manager and Chairman but all was not well on the domestic front and Hillerby and Soley had a massive falling out and the rest is history. There was a covenant banning any building or development on the site but, money talks!!

The reason is ????
It was never considered they would share a ground due to key people not liking each other. I know someone who use to be quite active with Town and they reckoned it was over quite a few things. Pretty sure they mentioned one was a lack of Synners support when Hartlepool issued a writ to Town but I might have misremembered that.

There were a few issues and, in the past, joining forces would never be an option but many of the people who were of that opinion are no longer around. It's time for a more realistic and pragmatic approach. There is a lot of sentimentality around the 100th birthday of Synners but, in my opinion, if nothing happens Synthonia will quietly disappear.

Yes agree. The person I know reckons it’s under serious consideration for both to share but only at a new venue. Synners can’t keep playing home games away from Billingham if they want survival. Playing at Stokesley, for example, is ridiculous for them.

The land next to Wolvo Services to wolvo roundabout (north of A689) is up for development. A planning application for a few houses at the Northern end is in.

It was land previously looked at by Billingham Boys FC many years ago.

Synners are playing at Stockton Town next season, slowly getting closer to Billingham. The new sports complex in Billingham is a goer for them but Town are not so sure about it as they still have something like 25 years left on the lease at Bedford terrace and would have to give up the revenues from cafe & bar as it would be ran by the complex if they moved (or so I have been told by a very reliable source).

A couple of seasons back Bedford Terrace was chosen as the venue for one of the cup finals, I can't remember which. Only the West Auckland lads appeared for the post match pint in the clubhouse. Their opposition that night were Synthonia.

Hopefully they've put that behaviour behind them, they certainly turned out in number after winning the Boxing Day game this season, which was good to see.

I hear talk about how good a side Billingham could have if the sides were combined but I'm not sure I agree. I don't see, and only have very rarely, big support in the town, and that went for the time before Town existed too.
