* Boro 6 Norwich 1: 1980 [V-09:34] *

Was my first game at the ground, aged 10. A mate had a spare ticket as his brother wasn't going and he went with him and his dad normally , from Redcar. Really enjoyed obv with that scoreline, it but funny thing was I didn't know the 'protocol' so when the final whistle went and we started walk out I realised that I wouldn't make it all the way back to Redcar in car without an accident shall we say, so said to my mate I needed a wee. His dad went a bit spare as he must have thought we were going to get away quickly from the ground to the car and onto the roads - as normal. Obv the bogs were heaving and I couldn't push anyone out the way , so had to wait ages, lol. Finally came out and his dad was in near meltdown about the fact we would be stuck in jams on the local roads, lol. I apologised but I thought , well you could have said something about not leaving it til the game had finished. So we got back to Redcar and went straight to the local newsagent and picked up the gazette with the sports section and I couldn't believe that they had printed out pics and a report of the game and distributed around the area before we even got back home. (prob 50 mins after the whistle) As a 10 yr old , to me that was bewildering. Anyway we all got a copy for the write up, and err I didn't get to go to the ground again for a further 6 years. lol

John Neal's side was the best I'd really seen of Boro & the dismantling of that in the early 80's along with youth unemployment at 29% & Maggie in full fascist mode.. made Ghost Town the classic song it is, imho..

I'll settle for 6v1 tonight.. UTB!!
