Great day, but about half that were there for the 81 Cup matchJust 11 years later, same stand, fans on the bottom of the floodlight as in 1981. I am in there with my old mam, near the back. He was there in 1981 also and talked about that on the day in 1992.
Me tooI was at both
The world had moved on by 92 and it was all ticket for Boro, I was in the Wolves end with a good few other BoroGreat day, but about half that were there for the 81 Cup match

SUPER BORO FANS was the headlines on the back page of the Gazette which accompanied this pic the following evening. Scant consolation. Although more than made up for some 11 years later!Just came across this photo , forgot i had itView attachment 64334
I think we got 4k or so for 92.Great day, but about half that were there for the 81 Cup match
I thought there was more than 4k in 92I think we got 4k or so for 92.
As for 81 the number is anyone's guess.
Certainly a massive turnout for a midweek game with only 3 days notice.
Wolves sold 6k tickets. In 1981, the next home game after beating WBA in the cup in front of 28285 was against Palace...attendance? 16099.
Next home game after beating Barnsley in the cup in front of 37557 was against Stoke...attendance? 15142.
Next home game after the Wolves game in the cup in front of 36383 was against WBA...attendance? 13228.
I remember Barnsley and Wolves brought loads, but over 22 thousand difference?
Boro fans were/still can be a cynical and pessimistic bunch
I'm sure that was the figure quoted at the time. Crowd safety restrictions having kicked in by that time.I thought there was more than 4k in 92
Certainly seemed like it at the time

The red haired guy 4th from the right is a lad called Dave McKay. Dave was fervent as they came travelling up with MSS to all games from his home in Brighton. He lost interest in the Boro when they went to the Riverside and started supporting Lewes Town locally where he became a well known figure on the terraces. Tragically Dave passed away a couple of years ago.Just 11 years later, same stand, fans on the bottom of the floodlight as in 1981. I am in there with my old mam, near the back. I was living in Berkshire and supposed to be going to a wedding in Cheshire the day of the promotion match. The world had moved on by 92 and it was all ticket for Boro, I was in the Wolves end with a good few other Boro
