Bowel cancer

Hello,

I've got a family history of bowel cancer.
About 3 years ago I went to dr and got on the list to be screened etc- had colonoscopy and they removed a few polyps.

Over the last year I've had pretty bad bleeding, but having IBS I just thought that's what happens.
I went to GP the other day and she felt a small hard lump inside.
I think it may be scar tissue due to an anal fissure.

Just a bit worried!

Anyway, gonna see consultant in next couple of weeks.

I wasn't worried at all until seeing my wife's face when I told her (she's a nurse).

Just thought I'd vent!

Vent away Chris. It's good to talk and to spread awareness of the importance to have regular checkups.

I lost my dad to BC in June and now I'm in my 60s, the NHS have added me to their regular screening program. Which means sending off a stool sample every 6 months or so.

I advise everyone to get on this programme.

There has been a recent campaign by local NHS trusts inviting people to take advantage of their mobile MRI scanner, which was at the ASDA car park at Portrack for my scan.

I was clear, but they did flag high levels of calcium which they advised me to consult my GP about.

The local campaign has been a roaring success and has saved 100s of Teesside lives in the last year through early diagnosis.

At least you are aware of the need for regular screening yourself and good luck.

My grandad died at 64 of it and dad got it when he was 62, he's 80 next week!!

My mam had it and left it too long to get checked, but after the op she was fine. You’ve done the right thing getting it checked early, hopefully that nips it in the bud.

I bet your $hitting bricks….

Sorry I always find dark humour helps in these situations…. My Mrs says it will be my undoing one of these days 😂

In all seriousness wishing you all the best… better to get in early and sorted
