Brad Jones

Always seems a canny bloke and I wish him well it let’s not go crazy here he was a liability in goal.

I saw him do his crazy walkabout as an 18 year old in a youth cup game and he was still doing it in his 30 s

He suffered from having to follow Skippy at Boro as we've seen a lot worse but that said he was more suited to the back up role at the highest level

He was a good shot stopper at times but sometimes his positioning was awful. I remember one our regular pastings by Arsenal, think 7-0, and when Henry was through his positioning literally gave him an open goal.

Still good career all things considered.

Watching Jason Steele celebrating Brighton’s Euro qualification, it might be time to accept that some on this board aren’t the best judge of keepers 🤣

His last appearance for us was 9 years ago, a token appearance against Yeovil at the end of the season in 2013/14.

He'd only just claimed the number one shirt in March 2023, after being sat on the bench at Brighton for 5 years, because Sanchez made a series of very noticeable errors.

But either way, I think it's fairly obvious that a 23 year Jason Steele is not going to be the same player as he is now at 32.

Blackburn and Sunderland fans didn't rate him either.

Jones was a terrible goalkeeper who was absolutely nowhere near Premier League standard (or Championship for that matter). I knew we were doomed under Southgate when he kept playing Jones when it was clear he wasn't up to it. He flapped at everything, one of the worst keepers I've seen in a Boro shirt and there's been some bad ones over the years.

Never as bad as some of the "experts" on here would have you believe. An awful lot of our fans have a real blind spot when assessing keepers. We still got screams of "get rid" at Steffen even in the Play off games.

Not the best keeper we've ever had but far from the worst and (from all accounts) a decent guy. Good luck to him in whatever he does next.
Seconded, on both points.

Jones was pretty good under WGS, he must have been or he wouldn't have got a move to a bigger club.

And generally I think our fans have unrealistic expectations of goalkeepers - even the best in the world would get criticised on here, because none of them are faultless.

Nor the club.
We produce good goalies, sell them, and replace them with expensive imports.......

Steele obviously had something that happened in the background with Karanka. He got sent off at Leeds early in Karanka's time in charge (1st game?) and then never got back in. I assume words were said and once you fell out with Karanka there was no coming back.

3 match ban from the red card and then he got injured in training and had to get surgery.

Dimi did well when he took his place.

Was awful, said it all when he got booed by his own fans when on loan at Sheffield Wednesday from Liverpool, at least it wasn’t just us, don’t think the Liverpool fans thought much of him either.
