Bringing your dog to work

The rules seem to go out of the window if its a cute puppy. I was doing a bit of work in a gallery once and there were signs on all the doors saying 'No dogs except for guide dogs' but when a woman turned up with a cute puppy wrapped up in her coat, all of the gallery assistants just made a big fuss of the cute little dog and let them in.

'No dogs except for guide dogs'
I've never understood these signs. I know the dogs are well trained, but not to be able to read, and the folk with them are usually blind. It seems an enormous expense to go to for the non-disabled humans.

Having worked in tech startup's in Silicon Valley / San Francisco, it's almost mandatory to bring a dog to the office. Most offices dont think anything about people bringing dogs to work, and people would often choose jobs based on the best perks such as free dog walking or the best snacks for their dogs (maybe not with the recent carnage, but 3 or 4 years ago certainly).

Although I did do a double take the first day I was sat at my desk and Twerka the dog wandered past my feet.

I used to have a rework membership. there was barely an office I visited without a dog. I like the idea.

Bulldog regularly in my place of work. Spends most of the day snoring and he's not very energetic, but that means he's no bother whatsoever. Food on desks is fine as he can't be bothered to reach that high.

I wouldn't ever bring my dog in. The headlines that night would be something like "38 dead as spaniel loves people to death."

I think there is a fine line. If I bring mine in what if my colleague does? And what if they don't get on. Or my colleagues dog isn't well behaved.

Before long everyone is bringing their pets in, keeping them on their desks, parrots on shoulders, kids underdesks sleeping in cages or on baskets.

The place is carnage. I for one do not want to risk this escalation. Its a no from me.
I’d allow parrots on shoulders.

I’d love to get a dog. Never felt like an option for a number of years with me and the missus both working full time and out of the house for 8-9 hours a day.

Now that I work from home permanently it definitely feels more like an option. We have a 9 year old cat though, and he’s never integrated with dogs. He hates the in laws dog whenever he comes round so would feel a bit bad on him. He already feels pushed out with the new born that landed in his life last summer! 😆

I guess I’ll just have to wait for now. Knowing how stubborn the cat is, I’ll be waiting at least a decade!

I’ve got a Staffordshire bull terrier, he’s somewhat erratic. I make him wear a handle (julius k9) in public. 😂.
I’d love to take him to work I’d even get to read the near miss and incident reports.

Couldn't take ours to work, nobody would get anything done as they'd either be playing with him or chasing the nosey little get out of the way.

My dog thinks that he has a job. He sees every day as a work day. He's always trying to herd me, and to protect me from predators that might want to eat me.
