Car insurance

I've had another butcher's at this including making up some stuff about never being in an accident etc, purely for quotation purposes.

I think one of the conclusions I've drawn is we have always included breakdown cover, legal cover and a few extras. We also have a hybrid, which from what I'm told can increase insurance premiums because of the battery risks. So I think I could maybe get this below £500 if there were a few things taken off and/or the car was different.

I'm just keen to understand what is pushing it up, so maybe I now have the answer. Thanks for all replies.

My premiums went up after a car ran into the back of mine. The insurance company told me that I had become a risk.
They went up further when I retired. The insurance company told me I had more time to drive about so I became a greater risk, even though I actually drive less .

Yeah, but if they all do the same stuff and you use the comparison sites, there's pretty much nowt you can do about it!

It is crazy though some of this stuff. Any 'savings' we made on using less petrol with a hybrid are soon eaten up by increased insurance costs. Its almost as if the industry don't want us to stop using petrol......

£136 for my little Audi a2 and 5k miles. Literally grabbed that price yesterday. Renewal from existing insurer was £240.

Had my car stolen last year and had to claim on my insurance. As I hadn’t protected my NCB I lost 6 years discount. Always try and pay extra to protect

Each car has an insurance group rating and that will have a direct impact on your premium. Do you know what the rating is for your car?
Although EV and hybrid batteries generally outlast the cars life (my previous 2009 hybrid is still on the road) the cost of replacement batteries can be eye watering (Hyundai Kona EV £28,000) which will likely mean the vehicle is a write off with any significant collision damage in the battery area.
I always strip out the legal cover, if you have a non fault accident just use a no win, no fee solicitor. Breakdown cover is included with my bank account so I don’t take that either. Also, would you need a courtesy car or would you have access to another car if needed?

A woman drove into mine when it was parked up. Having had another no fault claim the year before they hiked my premium up massively and told me if I had another I'd be refused Insurance. WTF!!

Ref Legal cover

Some people buy it several times over and really can only use it with one provider.

Example they buy it with their car insurance, house insurance, Trade Union membership, even utility bills in some cases. Its useful but not many times over.
