Carrick speaking to the press this afternoon

We are all entitled to an opinion on here people, I’m all for a bit of taking the mick and a laugh but to call carrickball an attention seeker is a bit of a stretch. He’s entitled to his opinion even though most of us think he’s wrong.

Think we have just been lacking that first goal. Most teams let us have the ball now, defend and try to catch us on the break. Once we get in front they have to come out and we can score threes and fours. The lack of goals from corners and free kicks is making this easier for the opposition to do this. Nobody fears us when we get a corner, unlike when the opposition get one. Yesterday Paddy was trying to steel an inch on the corner quadrant, the ref came over, told him to move it, Paddy put it back in the same spot then kicked it straight out of play!

I love to hear folks opinions.. trouble is most people confuse opinions with something they have read or heard.

I think yesterday we saw almost a 'Boro lite' version from an attacking sense. We created where we could but without unnecessarily leaving ourselves overly exposed.

I would expect as the game progresses on Wednesday that we will look to return to something like our usual home game but I do think the way we set out yesterday was absolutely deliberate in order to give us the opportunity to play our usual way at home.

My question to Michael:

“Michael that was probably the finest CB display since woodgate had Henry on toast by McNair, should Paddy be given Superhuman status considering he’s putting these performances in with no heart?”

😛
Might aswell give it up now with this, I created a thread yesterday saying I got McNair Wrong.

Must admit I was laughing to myself at a few posters foaming at the mouth when we passed short from a couple of free kicks we had around their box. Why is anyone surprised? We have a small side and we are dreadful at set pieces, I'm not opposed to us chucking it into the box from there but I'm not surprised at all that we played it short.

Playing it short is one thing, but I was a little disappointed when from a free kick about 20 yards inside their half it ended up back with Steffen - then out for a throw in to them about 20 yards out from our goal line.

😂 What are you talking about? My mask?

We've been pretty toothless the last month or so.. 1 shot on target a game? 2 goals in 4 games.

We seem to be hesitant to shoot of late.. I want to see us pull the trigger when we get into good positions.. which we didn't yesterday, or in the last few games.
2 goals in 4 games or 10 in 6, 12 in 7, 13 in 8, 15 in 9, 19 in 10, 20 in 11, 23 in 12, 28 in 13.

Why stop at 4.

I reckon Woody sat McNair down and said 'look if I can pocket one of the greatest strikers to ever live, then you can handle this big Swedish muffin!

I thought we looked more dangerous from the short corners we did during the home game (even scoring from one) and I was a little surprised we didn't save that tactic for these play off games. Unless it was part of some sort of double bluff? We only really have McNair and Lenihan who can realistically win headers in the opposition box and one of them was taking the corners.

Because I'm talking about our form of late, our recent momentum and performance.

Our attacking efficiency and rhythm from 13 games ago doesn't have much bearing on how we are currently playing.

Football is all about opinions and depends which camp your foot is in. For us, we've gone away from home in a playoff semi final game and restricted the home team to NIL shots on goal and on another day would have came away with 1 or 2 goals. (crossbar) & (offside) goals. We also stopped one of the most complete forwards in the League from touching the ball for long periods of the game. You could also argue in the last two games against Coventry they have sat with two rows of 4 and had a rigid system to stop us, not beat us but to stop us from creating and scoring.

From a Coventry's point of view they will say, they've not scored? In two games they've scored once and we've stopped them from playing. They could argue Akpom has not scored nor created anything and they will feel confidence going on to Wednesday.

It was clear Boro had another gear or perhaps two and yet we didn't as we seemed happy without having to push too much to come away with a draw. If we go on to win on Wednesday night everyone will call Carrick a genius and it worked well. Let's see, interesting and amazing we're even talking about the playoffs given where we started when Carrick was appointed.

But why does the line need to be drawn after the fourth game? Is it because 5 games ago we scored 3 and the game before that we scored 5? Is there really a big difference between a game from April 19 and April 24th? Why bother including the Luton game at all? If you’re including that one then include Hull. I mean who heard of a four-game form table anyway.

Just painting a negative narrative. Yesterdays result has enhanced our chances. It really is that simple.
