Carrick will turn this around

He has said he is sticking to his 4-2-3-1 system despite of the limitations of his squad of players (bit like wilder before him), smacks of petulance and/or naivety - he has also shown he is not particularly tactically astute from the Coventry games last season.

I’m sure other managers could find an XI in the current squad to fare better than 24th in the league.

I know Carrick is not good tactician,
but that's because he doesn't have much experience yet.
He needs time like any other rookie.
But I'm still sure We will not be relegated,
if we still give him a chance.

We are not expecting him to be Guardiola, but what I would expect is for him to recognise the system is not working with the players he has and change it.

It’s not like he’s been dragged off the streets. He’s played at the very highest level, under one of the greatest managers ever. He’s also done his coaching qualifications.from the outside it looks like he is really struggling and the only tool left in his kit is staying calm and that will solve everything.

If it continues like this for another 2-3 games,
I will admit that he is not good enough.
Although, personally, I will continue to encourage him.

Cracking positive and unfounded war cry Winston.

“FMTTM 300, Carrick will become the greatest manager /head coach of all time and lead us to the promised land of European success - HA-OOH HA-OOH!!”

Is he tactically naive? Perhaps but he’s inexperienced and still learning. He has a clear idea of how he wants his teams to play and I saw enough last season to believe he’ll turn this around.

The transfer window looks incredibly poor right now, you can’t really argue against that. However after 10 games last season he looked equally as bad.

Saturday is the perfect time to play Southampton (aware they’ll say the same about us) and it could be the confidence boosting first win to get our season on the road.

I’m always the annoying optimist but I’m convinced we’ve got a good manager here and given the time I’m certain he will turn it around.

100% agree. It’d hard loosing your 3 key players and having them replaced with young unproven talent. For the people saying ‘Carrick out’ who would you even replace him with?

I haven't seen anything this season to suggest that, just F***ing fed up of losing and constantly making mistakes, its like we don't learn from them.

I’d love him (and Woodgate) to stay, turn our situation around so the Boro are fighting for at least a promotion play off place, but I think that if we do not get points in the near future then the owner will step in take steps to halt the slide with a change of management.
Only last season’s promising future has stopped him making a move already.

Here is my tuppence worth, and why I am still fairly optimistic about our season.

So far in the 7 games we have played in the league, in most of them we have had periods where we looked capable. In our last 2 games you could easily argue, though I wouldn't, that we should have got much more from them than we did.

The issue for me is too many of the players are playing with fear or are out of form (particularly the more seasoned players). It seems that at kick off the ethos seems to be to hold on to the point you start off with. Once we go a goal or two down the attitude changes to one of "we might as well go for this". In that period we look like a different team.

I would argue that Carrick is struggling not just trying to blend the new boys, but getting a tune out of the established players. Howson, McGree, Forss, hackney and Fry have all started the season in a slump.

Clearly, Carrick has to do something to change the mental attitude of the players, and get them playing with no fear. I suspect that is why he is sticking with the new boys. He is trying to balance protecting them with not destroying any confidence they have.

Rogers looks very good in spells as does Latte Lath, though neither is consistent enough and lath is struggling finishing.

The early promise of these players, and I include Silvera in that, was there for us to see. As results didn't go our way they lost confidence, they are young lads, after all. The established players weren't playing well either which compounded the issues.

I would go with the best 11 he can put on the field, with the focus on the more experienced players, even when they aint playing as well as we might like. Get some solidity into our displays and use the new boys sparingly. Carrick isn't going to change, lock stock, the way we play. The formation isn't the issue, the players are. Drop Jones in at right back, not sure what we do at left back but I suspect VDB is not the answer despite doing quite well on Tuesday there. Play forss, mcgree and hackney across the front with Lath up front. Drop Obrien in with Howson.

Then introduce Silvera and rogers into games when appropriate.

We will not get relegated this season and the new players are not "Gash" although they are underperforming.

And I must admit I am also fed up with changing the manager every other season to start all over again. It's rinse repeat. Personally I want to allow a manager to learn from his errors, particularly one who managed us so well last season. He has bought half a season for me at the very least. I am confident by Christmas we will be going upwards in the table. It will take 20 games to get this team functioning.
