Its not really doing a Sunderland is it? I'm not saying Carrick should be sacked, as I don't think he should, but the discussion is relevant. We are in danger of having our worst league finish since 1990. Woodgate currently has that honour with 17th place in the second tier.

We have gone from one of our best seasons in 10 years to one of our worst in 25 years within 12 months. It needs serious consideration at what is going wrong. I personally think we've got it massively wrong in the transfer market last season but lots on here will defend the transfer policy. If we have another regression like this next season we could be in a relegation scrap. Something has to change. We can't just do the same thing again this summer and think everything will be OK.
In all honesty we are not out of the relegation fight just yet we still have a few of the teams below us Stoke and sheff wed to Name a few and are only 9 points off, injuries are certainly hurting us badly at the moment.

This season will be a massive lesson for Carrick and his team.

it may be a lesson, but will he learn from it,certainly doesnt seem to be learning much so far, dieng is a much better all round goalie, yet he keeps on with glover, whos been decent to be fair apart from a few mishaps,we havent had a striker for a few weeks and he wont do the obvious and play forss there (i know he did yesterday 2nd half),jury is still out for me,if he stays im ok,if he went i wouldnt lose any sleep tbh.i know hes had a bad amount of injuries to contend with as have most managers but we reallySHOULD be higher up the league, and that is down to carrick in my opinion

Already the 5th Manager / Caretaker in four years.
Highest win % of any Middlesbrough Manager — ever!
54%
Excellent returns and for me I do not want and do not think he will be sacked but his tactical ability to adapt, his teams coaching ability to set us up to not conceded, defend and score set pieces are all questionable as this has been our undoing even through the good times not to mention team selection and substitutions at times.

RB for RB, LB for LB, and on the recruitment and I believe Scott said himself Carrick and his team identifies a player or position requirement, the recruitment team go out and source the primary or alternatives which is put to the management for a decision so he too is questionable for the recruitment of these so called average players, I actually think a lot of these players will be so much stronger next season for there lessons of this which will aid in knowing how we want to play and the aggression needed to compete in the championship.

It's not all doom and gloom we have had some excellent performances this year and shown we can compete with anyone on our day. There is a little bit of a dark cloud over the club at the moment and we just have to stick together and hope that the team has enough leaders throughout to get through this and have a good few wins before the end of the season but in honesty the sooner its over the better for me!

I agree, Dieng is a strange one and again the elephant in the room in press conferences, I wish some would ask obviously Seny is back now and was your number one is he available and fit to start if you deem fit, if the answer is yes then why isn't he, if no then why is he on the bench, also don't want to criticize Glover two much as he has made some great saves aswell as mistakes but there are 10 men before him to stop an attack and there is always a point before where someone else should of done better.

Ravs been great but some of his positional sense, passing and body language has been poor and if it was any other "Fry" for instance he would be getting pelters.

Yesterday just looked and felt like our players where on the beach

He was asked about Dieng on Thursday.

He said he was fully fit and had been in full training for weeks now.
He just thought Glover had played well enough to keep the shirt.

Either Carrick is lying and there's an issue behind the scenes, or he's got a real blind spot when it comes to how poor Glover has been in the last month.

I think Carrick has made mistakes this season but if players can't make 4 yard passes to their team mates. First goal started from a horrendous pass from Barlaser yesterday. First half yesterday the number of times Silvera ran towards the box slowed down and virtually stopped instead of dragging it onto.his right foot and shooting, it's so frustrating. Don't get me wrong it's not just him, I have time for the kid. I think.he is stubborn at times with his selections. I'd have had Dieng back.in 3 weeks ago. Last thing...play with a bit more pace and drive we look a decent side when we move the ball quicker but we are so slow working it across the back it's painful to watch.

Ah OK, I didn't recall that conversation, well that says it all then, it's on the manager he is picking the team!

Steady as we go.
No problems, only solutions.
We'll check the cargo when we dock at the end of the season, though I've no doubt plans and preparations are already in place for next season.

I cannot believe that we're even getting threads like this. The bloke is still learning and has done an objectively good job no matter how frustrating it can be at times.
The thing about those asking this question is that they’ve spent most of this season saying we’re a mid-table team and we’ve got no chance of promotion. Well we’re slap bang in the middle of the league, right where you told us we would be.

The team is performing to your expectations so why would you be asking about changing the manager if not to just stir the sh*t, wind people up or try for a ton thread?

I said this on here after Bristol City. This team is capable of being brilliant and being absolute dogsh*t, occasionally in the same game. We’ve beaten Leicester twice, Southampton and Chelsea but lost badly to Rotherham, Millwall and Plymouth.

I don’t think sacking the manager changes anything tbh. I absolutely hate this obsession with changing managers and coaches. The consensus is that we have a promising young one, well you have to allow them to develop and make mistakes. And another thing about Carrick… people used to moan and moan and moan about Warnock and Wilder throwing players under the bus. You don’t get that with this fella. He stands up and responsibility when things don’t go to plan.

We need to get to the bottom of the injury crisis we’ve had all season, it has been absolutely bizarre to have at least 8 or 9 missing every week for months on end. Yesterday was no different: Smith, Fry, Lenihan, Bangura, Howson, Hackney, Jones and Coburn all missing. I don’t think there’s a team around that can play and win consistently with that many senior players missing at the same time.

It’s a big summer for Boro. I think we need 4 or 5 quality players to be signed if we’re to challenge again. But I believe the chairman will back this manager with hard cash. Carrick has made some mistakes and/or odd decisions but so did Aitor, McClaren, Robbo and Mowbray. Where we are in the league at present isn’t really anyone’s ‘fault’ per se, imo. It feels like there’s been loads going on all the time. Carrick is trying to navigate his way through and has earned time and patience while he does that, surely.

It’s just been a complicated, disjointed and messy season with loads of incomings and outgoings, a colossal number of injuries to contend with, and a lot of chopping and changing. It’s been the complete opposite of last season in terms of Carrick choosing from the same 12, 13 players every week to this.

But coming on and posting that we aren’t good enough for top six and are mid-table at best, and then ‘asking the question’ - or stirring the sh*t - when the team is where you apparently expected it to be makes absolutely no sense at all.

People need to just calm down.

We can't have a consistent top-six side with a mixed bag of old spanners, a tin of galvanized nails, three wing-nuts, a pair of ya Grandads pliers and a set of screwdrivers.
Injuries have impacted us terribly this season.
A genius with a magic wand could never pick a consistent side all season.
We've seen two valuable players depart mid-season [no matter what individuals thought — you only know what you had when you lose it].
The strategy for finance, recruitment, and Management is a Club responsibility.
It's not just about individuals.
We all win together and we all lose together.
It's clear we don't have all the right tools, but we can't blame any one person for not being able to do a good job, without the right tools.
And that goes from the kids who serve the pies on match-days to the top, including every department in-between.
We can keep the tool-box, but we need to get some new quality tools for next season.

Honestly don't rate Carrick, the football we play is atrocious and he will not change it, nowhere near good enough to play nice little passing football nor anywhere near solid enough at the back. Injurys or not the manager picks the team and set up, how we want to play and all of it just is not good enough, when you don't have the players you don't play technical football, like it or not you need to be solid and dull to do well in this league concede less, nick games and you'll be up there. Rather watch us go 4-4-2 something different teams aren't used to the old formations and would catch a number out. Also his in game decision making is terrible same last season has no idea when to make a sub to change a game. But everyone will blame recruitment, at the end of the day they don't pick the starting 11

If your players can't make 4 yards passes and give the ball away in their own half maybe don't tell them to play that way. Play balls into less dangerous areas, play it into the channels, be more direct in how we get the ball out from the back.

We have been better against some of the better sides this season because we have had to commit to having less possession (less chances to mess it up) and play more on the break.
