Championship team of the season

Would've had someone like Cedric Kipre in ahead of Greaves, WBA with no players in is a strange one.

Hull have only conceded two goals less than us but have a defender in there...

It's all calculated on stats. Not just goals/assists.
Rutter is the 5th highest rated player in the league with an average rating of 7,43. Armstrong is 14th with a rating of 7.12.
I think there might be a minimum games started criteria as well. Maybe 30 matches. Fatawu and Philogene are both rated higher than Whittaker but have both only started 29 matches.

Boro's highest placed player is Finn Azaz in 17th with a rating of 7.07 and was the closest outfield player to featuring in the team. But has only started 21 matches.

Rav before Greaves any day of the week
Rav is rated 123rd in the league with a rating of 6.74, which is exactly the same as Barlaser's and Howson's. Clarke is rated much higher at 39th with a rating of 6.94 but he hasn't started anywhere near enough matches.

If my theory is correct with a minimum of 30 starts, then the only outfield players we had that qualified are Howson and VDB. Both have the exact same rating of 6.74 and are nowhere near.
Dieng also has started 32 matches but only has a rating of 6.61 which isn't far behind Hermansen who has a rating of 6.68.

That's with a WhoScored Team of the Week, which is just based on the highest rated player in each position that round of fixtures.

These Teams of the Season were selected by a panel of judges, they're probably not just going to go off pure stats.

I think it is stats generated. I also think that goals and assists are scored very highly and can skew the ratings, or maybe it's right that they score highly.

In any event, it's consistent.

Fair enough. There's a very close link to their player ratings!

Looking a bit more closely there might be two players listed who aren't the highest rated in their position.

Szmodics and Ampadu

There's a comparison, for last season, with the EFL team of the season at the top and the statistical one below it.

As you can see, it's two significantly different teams.

I have been reading some other forums and it was mentioned that Armstrong hasn't made the team because he's played most of the season on the left wing (with Che Adams playing centrally), not as a striker and so he hasn't been included because he is behind Summerville. If the 11 best players were all left wingers then only one of them would still be included in the best team.

There are not many number 9s in the top scorers list this season so Rutter has been included based on his all round game, not just his goals. I wouldn't argue with his inclusion. It's not fantasy football where you just pick the players you want. There is a criteria to pick.
