Chuba Akpom EFL Award

Its not just based on goals scored though is it. I think he deserves it as nobody at the start of the season thought he would be in the running. But Burnley have had a hell of a season, some of their players will be in the running too.

It's between Gyokeres, Akpom and Brownhill.

I personally think Akpom is a shoe-in here, I'm guessing the votes have already been placed as the awards are tomorrow.
Gyokeres might score a hatful today, to draw ahead on G+A, but it could be too late.

So Gyokeres didn't score or assist today.

Leaving Akpom clear as the player involved in the most goals in the league.

There's obviously more to it than pure goals and assists, but he's also our best player, vital to our style and we're undoubtedly one of the most entertaining, freescoring and effective sides in the league this season.

I discussed this a few times with people and I've heard it said on a number of occasions that Gyokeres has more assists than Akpom. I would love to know in how many of our goals Akpom has been involved in the build up play rather than simply look at the assists only.

As demonstrated by Hackney's goal against Hull the other day the best part of the build up play to that goal was Akpom's ball through to Jones who then assisted Hackney but the stats will only show Hackney as the goal scorer and Jones as the assist.

The counting of single assists is relatively new to the game in footie. In the NHL, assists for up to two players per goal has been part of the game forever👍
