Cmon Sheriff

Cheers Cardiff that is a great little read, particulally liked the tweet below;

the village of Parcani, populated entirely by ethnic Bulgarians who produce mostly salty cheese and very exotic-looking brides..............

Now does anybody know if Ryanair fly to Parcani as its sounds my type of town

And mine! What a good read.

I didn't realise Moldova played their matches at their stadium too, that's mental.

Imagine if Liverpool unilaterally declared independence, had its independence maintained by Irish troops occupying it, but England started to play their home matches there.

Or Serbia playing their home matches in Kosovo.

It's a fun story, even if they're all criminals.

I've always found Transnistria fascinating. A whole "country" which doesn't exist, is technically at war with the rest of moldova and hasn't moved on from Soviet days (there are still Lenin statues dotted about around the country, including a big one outside of it's main government building). The company Sheriff who own the football club also own pretty much all the supermarkets, petrol stations and other big businesses.

I was set to travel there when Covid hit because I wanted to see it for myself. I was booked to stay in an apartment on Karl Marx Street... yes... they still have a Karl Marx Street! But when travel was hit, my plans had to be cancelled and I've been reluctant to book anything until it becomes easier to travel, but it's still first on my list once I can travel!

There's loads of interesting videos on YouTube from people who travelled there and I get the feeling those videos/people wanting to travel to Transnistria will increase as people learn about this weird place from their Champions League journey.
