C'Mon you Tories!

Is it still the case that he lives at whatever property friends let him use free of charge? He probably doesn't actually own an ID that matches the address he resides at.

It'll be way more than half of the tories that stood. They're losing about half the ones they already held. Unless there's a reason to think they didn't put candidates up anywhere where Labour/Lib Dems were incumbent it'll be more like 80+% of tory candidates lost.
I thought the tories had near a thousand councillors standing at these locals. Not sure where I read that.

I don't know how many candidates they've stood overall but I'd have guessed higher than that. We've had about 1,200 results so far 37 councils still to declare. You'd think they'd have a candidate most places.

Good news, but I still can't get my head around how almost 59k people voted for a criminal who set the police on his opponents and who demanded several recounts to try and overturn council election results.

Do they not pay attention to anything?

I think it's proof that we do have a lot of genuine Tories on Teesside now, sadly.

You can wave away Houchen with a personal vote and tangible achievements.

Cleveland Police are arguably the worst police force in the country and nothing has improved under the dodgy Turner, but nearly 60,000 people still fancied him.
It's surely got to be because of the party name.

They won't lose 80% of the standing candidates. It's about half up to now.

Unbelievable.

Yep, and I say this as a Labour member. I want them to do just a little bit better than expected today. Not on Teesside, natch, as would be great to see this Houchen character iced, but I dearly want Sunak to fight the GE as there is no way the UK public will vote for him. So I'd be happy with a little mini-bounce for the enemy, just enough to give them hope, to stay the assassin's knife.

I fear, however, he will be replaced this summer.
Your wish has essentially come true and Teesside basically saved his skin probably.
If the results were repeated in a GE then I think labour would be forced into PR legislation which I think could save this country from total oblivion

I need to read and understand more on PR because obviously there is consensus politics (as I understand it) whereby the smaller parties get an influence over which direction we set course for.

Slightly worrying because Richard Tice (Tommy Robinson in a suit) was asking for it so I need to understand it better….

You would have thought that everyone who turned out to vote for Lord Airport would have cast a vote for fellow Tory Turner.

Quite a number didn't, which suggests that his past has finally caught up with him. And rightly so.
