Bristol City star Tommy Conway is closing in on a £5million move to Middlesbrough amid interest from Rangers, according to The Mirror.

The national newspaper reported [8 August, page 53] that Burnley and Hull City are also interested in the 22-year-old, who is in his final 12 months at the Riverside Stadium after turning down a new deal.

This was a mad day! I was in Tenerife with my mate, only a teenager, chasing beer and lasses, think one of us had a boro top on and remember during the course of the day people coming up and saying to us “you’ve just signed hasselbaink, what do you think of viduka signing etc”. Was totally surreal, youth mixed with heat and alcohol, the excitement levels were insane, just won the cup with Europe to come, I’d love the next generation of boro fans to be able to feel those times we felt

I remember being on holiday and there was no internet or anything back then but got a newspaper, few days later, and there was a tiny square on one of the inside pages saying "Middlesbrough complete the signings of Hasselbaink, Viduka and Reiziger" and that was it. No big pictures, no analysis, no commentary on it or anything, just a matter of fact statement of some of the best business we've ever done and I presume several pages on Beckham's new haircut.

I remember being in Greece when Robbo was in Brazil trying to sign Juninho. When I boarded the plane home I saw an article saying that Arsenal had come in for him at the last moment, so I flew back thoroughly deflated. I was in Halkidiki when we signed Juninho - I saw a photo on the back page of newspaper ( remember them?) as I passed a stall. My wife, & sundry passers by, couldn’t understand why I suddenly started jumping around in delight!
